I've been thinking about getting a winch rope, but I don't know much about them. What advantages/disadvantages, cost, length, strength, durability, where to buy, ease of use. . .

Herzog said:Winch rope is awesome. I wouldn't run anything besides the rope in any of my winches. It's just easier to deal with. I saw one come loose on a big pull in Moab and all it did was fall to the ground. Absolutely no recoil. Much safter than steel. I believe it to be much stronger than steel also, that is if it is used properly.
Right now I'm running the same stuff available from Rocklogic, btw.

RockMonkey said:I'll be the third to admit I'm now scared of wire rope... I'm sold on the rope, and I was super skeptical about it at first. It will break if you allow it to rub against a rock. I'm considering adding a third abrasion gaurd to mine after I cut it today in Cedar. Even if I had to buy a new rope now, it has lasted many times longer than wire rope would have, and the cool thing is, I DON'T have to replace it! I'm just gonna splice it back together, and make it STRONGER at the point that it broke!
