Windows Vista

I have high hopes for SP1. XP was pretty nasty brand new as well!

I actually thought XP was quite polished by the time it was released. I was using the beta RC1 in a production environment in 2001 nearly a year and a half before release. Just for kicks I stress tested it running Prime and distributed.net for 60 days straight on low priority while continuing to use the system for daily administration tasks. Solid as a rock, never crashed. And it worked well with games, consistently outperforming the same hardware running 2000. Vista feels like a rushed product, when it really was anything but. Microsoft had all the time in the world to polish the release and botched it. They still have not delivered on the majority of the Ultimate upgrades they were supposed to release in the first 6 months.

Vista is what my Laptop came with. It works fine for me! I have had for 2-3months now, and no problems. I have been sweeping my comp. for viruses every week, and haven't had any problems. My .02 cents But of course, I am a teen, that likes to mess with things! :flipoff:

I got it installed and up and running this week. I first upgraded my XP to Ultimate but then I had to install all new drivers after installing my Mother Board drivers it would not boot ( BLUE SCREEN:rolleyes: ) So I tried to do a repair and it came up and said the OS has been fix. Reboot and still Blue Screen:rolleyes: So I format the hard drive (not main computer, so nothing lost) And got it working again. got every thing installed, got it activated and started to install programs again.

I like the look of it and if you turn off the dumb Continue or Cancel crap then it isn't that bad. I wouldn't install it on a main computer (work, gaming, etc..) not in tell MS works out all the bugs.

I like vista, took a while to figure out all the new style in MS Office, but all in all I dig it. Shane wants to put XP back on it so it runs faster, but I am so used to it now that I dont want to go back to XP. Yeah it does have A LOT of stuff to save yourself from being dumb to yourself with your computer...if that makes sense, well it doesnt, NEWAYS, shane did some stuff to it and it works awesome now.

Honestly, if the daily programs that I use ran perfect on a good flavor of linux I would never look back. But that won't be the case for a while.

X10...that is the only thing holding me back as well. I'm starting to think this whole Vista thing is going to make companies release their products on Linux because so many people want to get away from Windows. Who knows it might be the death of Windows :)

I've got Vista on my laptop and it works alright.
I set it for performance in the system setting and it looks like XP.
Networking was real easy for me, it found the wireless connection and I just had to set the security settings.
I'm using openoffice, firefox and thunderbird because ms office xp wouldn't work right on ms Vista

Heres a site with some ways to tweak it

Not to stray off topic but if anyone has a legit version of XP pro they are not using I'd pay a little for it. I'm using a umm..... a ARRRRG version currently.

That's cool... I might try installing Vista on my spare drive and see what I can see there...
