Worried about high gas prices?

Yeah it can't be pretty when a 992 pound car meets head on with an 8000 pound truck. But still, 150 miles per gallon... It would be sweet to not care about gas prices. We were basically in this same spot in the early 70s, and we all know what kind of cars came out of that. Hopefully the new generation of econoboxes will be a bit higher quality.

They are no exempt from crash testing for the most part, but the physics of that equation do not favor the individual riding in the lighter car at all. I have seen several shots of those Smarts being crash tested...they don't fold up like a piece of paper, they do have lots of airbags, so they might be safer than we think.

I am all for it...I love the leather and Bose in my Caddy but it cost almost a hundred bucks to fill up the company truck in Duchesne last week...I can live with slow acceleration, I cannot live with a gaping hole in my budget.

I can only imagine the pucker marks I would leave in the seat after a trip from SLC to Wendover. The thought of the crosswind alone has me wondering!

I watched a deal on 60 minutes, was about the use of ethanol. They said Brazil is completely rid of imported oil because of the use of it. The American auto makers helped with this as well. They designed a vehicle that is called "flex" runs on both gas and ethanol. They are now in the makes here in the states starting to push the idea. Gas prices would be dropped in half they say.

I have a 2000 Ranger with the 3 liter flex fuel engine.
The only problem is the nearest station with the E85 (85% ethanol 15% gasoline)
fuel is 30 mile away and only 4 total for the state of Utah.
It does get a little better mileage than my Bronco:)
