This is true for my '96 elocker from a 4runner in an ifs rear axle. I run it on 39s, and I am moderately hard on it. After 6 or 7 years a side gear let go. Pics and more info in this thread:I have heard of issues of not having enough spline engagement in the locker. This can lead to broken shafts or lockers.
One of the junkyard lockers I got had a broken side gear just like that--so the FZJ80 shafts don't engage any further than the mini shafts do. That's what I mean when I say "no problems".
Breakage like that isn't (in my mind) an engagement issue, it's just finding the weak link in the locker. They rock, but they aren't as strong as some other options. I still like 'em though....
Alright fellas, got a couple more questions on this, as i prepare to get ready to do this swap,
1. Do the stock (or hardened shafts such as the dirty 30s, or the longfields) have the same spline count, and will fit into the e locker assembly?
2. After eyeballing my front axle, it looks like it might be a tight fit, to get the e locker motor into my axle housing, and clear my passenger side leaf springs, and perch (I will take a couple pics tomorrow if it helps) will they clear the springs and the perches? As far as i know, the springs are in the stock location.
that should be all for now, but ill ask if i have others
