Dude brah f-ing do it! Don't listen to the posers on here. They really don't know anything about good looking lifted 1/2 tons. I'd do some 40" Bogger Super swampers with the extra 3" of lift to give those super knar boggers A good fit in the will wells. It will look stupid epic knar knar. Speaking of big tires and lifts... What is everybody up to this weekend?

i might not have the knowledge of 4x4. but i speak sarcasm rather fluently im right there with ya "Brah"

Build the jeep. I think your transmission would literally cry if you put 40's with 4.10's on it. I have 4.56's with my 35's and even then it's a little tall (could benefit from 4.88's with the 35's)

In my opinion, the half-ton transmission will be your area of most stress if you run 40's with 4.10's. The extra rotational mass does make that much difference on transmission stress.

And X5 on body lifts looking like ass (aside from them not being safe). You'd definitely remember if you've seen one in person because they are very noticeable. Especially when they don't spring the extra money for the bumper brackets and wheel-well liners.

With the body lift, remember leverage is your enemy in a single-shear application. Imagine if you got in a front-end collision at 30 mph. With 0 body lift, you have (x) amount of force from your body trying to keep moving forward while your frame has came to a stop. Now put a 3" body lift on there, you now have 3 times the force (because of leverage) and your 30 mph accident now has the force of a 90 mph crash on your body mounts. A.k.a. Your body is ripped from your frame, rendering your vehicle "totaled"

I dont know how much Greg is selling his truck for ... but what if you sold your truck and with the 4500 you have to spend would that get you in the ball park for his truck. That GM is bad ass. Thats coming from someone that is not a big GM fan :)

XjNate has a 3" body lift on his XJ and he loves it...... :)

Ya wheeled with him down in sg. All he had was A 3" body lift and rocked the Saint Geezy Fow sheezy dawg.

Hey you leave me out of this! I avoid "bro" truck threads because I have nothing constructive to add. I'm all about form follows function. I very strongly disagree with 40's on a DD/occasional wheeler.

To echo SSS, savings accounts are the bees knees, brah.

Can I assume this is sarcasm or a joke?

i would assume this correct with his "bro truck" comment he thinks hes a pretty big somebody to look down on someone who doesnt exactly match his 4x4 knowledge nor his 4x4 preference! to each his own.

Hey, I got pulled into this thread by them joking about me having a body lift on my unibody. Referring to them as bro trucks does not mean I look down on them, it's just not my style. We've talked about bro trucks before and it's totally a different strokes for different folks situation. Why take offense to my comments and no one else's? I thought my post was mildly constructive but maybe I was wrong

Don't sweat the smartass comments, they're just having a little fun. :D

Keep asking your questions, it's not easy to get into a new hobby. Considering your original question, I would say that you need to determine what you really want to do with either vehicle, then decide and go from there.

Wasn't sure if it was a joke, or someone said it as a joke and someone else believed it. :) As for the other stuff, I don't even know what a bro truck is.

We have plenty of people that joke around on here, try not to take offense but realize this is a rockcrawling forum. That being said, lots of people on here have bro trucks as their tow rigs. Bro trucks aren't a bad thing, just a taste that some people have and others don't. I like XJ's and no one likes them but that doesn't stop me.

Also keep in mind your thread title. You told us to talk you out if it :)

x2

98% of the guys on here that are 'building' a rig are going for function over form. Build it beefy, to work well in the rough stuff.... not half-ass it and try to run 40's on IFS 1/2 ton trucks. And any shop that is trying to sell you on that idea, doesn't care for you in the long run... they just want your money.
