WTB 904 transmission

A 30rh from a YJ or TJ with the 2.5 and 3 speed auto is also correct. At least as far as I understand. I was lucky enough to find a basket case 904 from a Cherokee.

The Cherokee 904 runs a bigger input shaft and they have a lock up style converter so they are slightly more desirable but if this is for an ecotec buggy project the YJ 904 is a better option just due to the fact aftermarket valve bodies and what not are not available for the lock up style 904.

With all of this being said most buggy guys are going to the 60 degree 700r4 for the lower first gear and they are easier to get and cheaper to build.

Good info Ryan! I was thinking a 904 would be easier to find, cheaper and simpler... but if that's not the case, I would prefer a 60* 700R4. I did just find one locally for a decent price.

I'm planning on a LZ9 3.9, like @N-Smooth ... just going to copy him. It's cheaper, simpler with good power and decent size.

Have you thought about just taking over Nate’s build…. He won’t miss it if it comes up missing.

Are you planning on buying a chassis? Or building one?

Another option if you can't find a 700r4 is a late model 4L60 with the removable bellhousing. Round about the turn of the millennium, there was a 3.8L Camaro that had that version of the 4L60. Rumor has it, that 4L60 has wimpier internal parts but the bellhousing can be swapped onto a readily available 4L60 from a Tahoe, etc. Transgo has a kit to make them a FMVB.

I think I'd be good with a 700r4 with a FMRVB and not need a trans controller. I found a 2.8 700r4 locally for $400, probably could get a bit cheaper if I asked.
