XD9000i VS M8000 Help me understand

Hey, I told ya I was tired. ;)

How much cable does the 9K unit hold? I noticed the 8K one was only 80'. I think mine is 125', and that extra reach could come in handy some day.

Did you get the e mail from Carl? That one might just be worth a try, for the money.

You can get the M8000 with 80 or 100 feet of rope. The XD9000i comes with 125 feet. I just found some very basic specs on the Champion that Carl sent the email about. It's only a 2.2 HP motor, and it has the Ramsey style clutch lever which I loathe. I would rather pay http://www.amazon.com/C8000K-Champi...d_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1202782718&sr=8-1
I wish I could find some more detailed specs so I could over-analyze it with my Brett-esque calculator watch. I would rather pay an extra $85 for the Smittybilt XRC8 http://www.winchdepot.com/PDT296594.aspx and get the Warn style clutch lever, and a 4.1 HP motor.

I'm sure you've looked, but have you checked Ebay? I picked up my 9.5 for $60 less than Winchdepot delivered, from a dealer on there. It's been too long, otherwise I'd link you to the seller.

Good idea! I haven't even started to shop around for price. Really just need to decide what I want first. Then I'll find the best price on it.

You can buy 2.3 M8000s for the price of an 8274, and they both say Warn on them.

So, we may not have nailed down the exact motor RPM, but we have determined that the XD9000i motor spins slower than the M8000. Is there a formula for figuring the line pull given the information we know? I'm still not convinced the XD9000i is going to pull 1000 pounds harder than the M8000.

That table got boogered. Basically, at 8000 lbs pull the M8000 is at 2640rpm and has 3.9 ft-lbs and a gear ratio of 216:1, so that's 842 ft-lbs (at that speed).

At 8000 lbs, the XD9000i is at 1640rpm and has 5.3 ft-lbs and a gear ratio of 156 for 826 ft-lbs (at that speed).

Just to wanted to wrap this thread up. I ordered the M8000. The specs look very good, the price was right, and the form-factor will fit my application a little better than an integrated-solenoid winch.
