I'm getting ready to order a lift kit for my wife's 98 XJ. I thought the rear axle was a Dana 35, but someone else thought it was a Chrysler 8.25. How can I tell the difference? Does anyone have pictures of the 2 so I can compare? Also what are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks for the help. I want to be sure to get the right kit.

well, here is a pic of the D35, I thought they had an 8.25 pic too but guess not, so if it doesn't look like this then its the 8.25:D

The 8.25" was very common in the '97s due to a limited supply of 35Cs, less common in other years. Supergper's picture isn't really going to help any, the axles are remarkably similar as pictured below. The pinion on the 8.25" is lower than the 35 pinion.

Easiest way to tell for me is the Corp 8.25, is flat on the top and bottom of diff and diff cover.

Good idea, a subtle but noticeable difference.
