I just replaced both hub/bearing assy's on my 96XJ and my question is i didnt torque the 3 bolts that hold on the bearing or the the axle nut ( I know very stupid) and i have read by not doing so the bearing will fail and i have also read that no matter if you did or didnt torque them it dont matter because the bolts put no pressure on the bearing unit it self there for it wont make any difference on the bearing life? So if i didnt torque them down to spec and i just used a hand wrench on the 3 bolts that are on the bearing it self and just used a air gun to tighten the axle nut down did i screw up my bearings by not torquing to spec? Should i take it apart and torque to specs or will it be ok? Everything i have read is contradicting each other some say yes it is a must for bearing life others have said no it wont effect bearings im so confused:confused:

The 3 bolts that hold the Assy on won't screw up the bearing but I would pull the axle nut and torque it to specs if it were me.

it looks like the torque on the axle nut is 175 ftlbs. if you feel like your air gun has the power you should be fine. the cool thing about a torque wrench is being positive its right. the knuckle to bearing hub bolts are 75 ftlbs.
