So guys found someone willing to make some tube fender flares but he would rather make more than one set and wants to know what a fair price is. What do some of you other xj guys think is a fair price to have some tube fender flares made for a 4dr 92 xj?

May I ask why you want to go tube? The sheet metal in the front is extremely flexible, especially after you cut it. I would think that by the time you cut a backing plate that held the flare on securely, that you would have more work into it than just getting the fender/flare style like what Hooligan offers.

Why not a plastic flare?

just plain for looks. this idea is still up in the air, whats most important is getting protection like skids, sliders, rear quarter panel covers and bumpers which I hope to make with my tube bender once it warms up.

Also, if you cut the rear fender to allow bigger tires, there isn't a lot of room left to mount a flare to. Maybe an inch between the cut and the door seem. That is why the plastic flare get mounted to the rear doors. And why the rear tube flares come attatched to fenders. Without fenders, you would probably end up having to weld the flare to the body.

When I bought my XJ in August, it had 30" BFG's on it with a 2" BB. The tires still rubbed. Not bad, but bad enough. So I cut. I was planning on going bigger on the tires anyway. I used rear TJ flares all around and trimmed the flares to match the body line. I will be going to the Hooligan style flares at some point, but for now, the TJ flares work well and look good. I like them much better than Bushwackers for looks and longevity.

Sitting on 32's" now:

Looks great with the 32's. Dont think I want to go bigger than 30's for some time since I dont wheel much and want to just lift it 2" to get through MINOR obstacles when trying to find a camp site so may just see how 235's fit and look with the 2" first and go from there. Those tj flares look great and seem to bring a great look to the xj more so than the stock flares.

Why would you ever need tube flares for 30's? If its for looks like you say it is I don't think it will help. It will make the tires look tiny.

meh, guess your right. Tube flairs, bushwackers and a few others would look goofy on a rig with 30" tires. Maybe down the road if we decide to build it more then ill get some. Fab guy I talk to quite a bit just mentioned it and I like the look and thought I would help him out some in asking what they might go for also if he decided to make some.

Here's how BW Flattie flares look on an XJ, painted to match, which might be a better option. My rig has 6" of lift and 33x 11.50 tires with 4" BS. I wouldn't attempt to run a metal tube flare without the fender reinforcement plating. Lean on it once and the fender/quarter would be kissed. With these flares, you could run a 31" tire with 2"-3" of lift with no rubbing at the flare, using the proper wheel BS.

I like those a lot... but not quite $750.00

I would be interested, but my tires stick out a bit more than most so I would want them a bit wider.
