Does anybody have any idea how to check for a blockage in the air vent system on a '98 XJ? It seems like ours is having some problems. When it's set to blow out of the dash vents, it sometimes will blow and sometimes won't. It also seems to have more of a difficulty at high speeds (65 mph or higher). Also, sometimes we get a wierd whistling sound coming from behind the dash when the fan is set to one of the higher blowing settings. I'm not talking about the AC blowing cold air, just the vent system blowing air at all, AC or not. Anybody have any suggestions?

I know older XJ's had a vacuum operated vent system. I don't think they used it still in the 98's though. You could always go to a hardware or maytag store and they have a vent brush you can buy and try fishing that through the vents.

I had the same problem on my '90 XJ. Mine was a vaccum leak related. On the freeway it would blow through the defrost. Once I took my foot off the gas it would change to the vents. good luck

Yes, check under the front right corner of your bumper and you will find a vacuum reservoir. Make sure that the lines running to it from your motor aren't cracked or have come off.
