YJ rear Trackbar

I was doing my exhaust on my YJ yesterday and noticed there is a rear trackbar on it.

To my knowledge with me having leaf springs all the way around I dont need a trackbar in the rear.

Does anyone here my chance have any knowledge to why it may be there, and really if its needed or if I can remove it.

its a 1991 Jeep Wrangler 4" spring under lift and 2" body lift.

(This is how I bought it)

soooo unnecessary! i've had a few buddies with yj's and they all remove them first thing. after all xj's don't have them either. they are there to limit your flex :D

You'll never notice the difference with them gone. I've always removed all the brackets as well, since "missing or damaged" suspension parts are a reason to get failed at safety inspection. If there's no hardware, the inspector is less likely to notice.

track bars are generally meant to locate the axle under the rig. since your leaf springs are already doing that task. there is no need for a track bar. it is just working against the leaf springs.

So before I go do this I just want to make sure. The front trackbar can go too?
With ~35 miles freeway round trip everyday I don't want to be one of those people on the side of the road upside down because the trackbar was gone.

Wouldn't this make it very difficult to "Fix" if they do notice?

I was thinking remove the bars, and throw them in the closet until the next year and put them on for inspection. (or I have had good luck with having stuff like that sitting in the back seat and when they say "It failed because it was missing" I reply with hold on it will be on in 10seconds. (They usually say never mind it passes.)

i've never heard of anyone keeping them on either front or rear :ugh:

leaf springs, especially under the axle do a great job of locating the axle side-to-side. pull them both and if you notice a difference (besides the added flex, nicer ride, cleaner looking suspension and weight loss lol) put them back on. i'd bet $ you curse them once they are off and wish you'd done it sooner

edit: i've also never heard of failing safety cause of something like that. sure it could happen but that's crazy. i guess they could fail me for not having swaybars f/r but it's never happened

Yeah, when I worked at Teraflex I got calls regularly from people wondering if we had any take-offs they could use to pass inspection. Moral: don't get your inspection done at Jiffy Lube. ;)

I only get mine done there because they usually pass me.

I just did my exhaust and found they passed me with a hallow cat (I had to run the treadmill) and there were so many holes in the exhaust that its not even funny. as well as the general no mudflaps (They were in the backseat) as well as a long list of things I found wrong with it

They even gave me 10% off because of the wait.

Well long story short the track bar(s) are coming off.
