yj wrangler electrical ? (help)

I need a little help, I dont know much about jeeps & Im trying to help a friend,
so any input would be helpfull.
A close friend of mine passed away 4 months ago & Another good friend bought his jeep, but its his first & doesnt know much about them.
he said his dash lights & tail lights quit working, anyone know if those 2 are linked somehow? or where to check for some pinched wires in relation to them.

I think both share the same fuse. I would look for any splices that someone may have done for trailer wires or other aftermarket stuff that needs a tail light feed. I have fixed several where they spliced into the tail lights only to have salt and mud eat away the splice allowing it to short out.

They are both tied to the light switch too. I think I remember my YJ light switch failing once.
