I'd heard that they signed it so I checked for myself on Monday.... One possible problem is that they only signed one of the two ways in (or the other sign got ran over and removed)... so if you came at the trail from down stream (which is the hardest way in) you wouldn't even see the sign

Thanks for the reminder, Meat. The trail is currently posted "closed" at each end. I have talked to two different BLM reps in the last few days. They both said that they are "optimistic" that we will be able to re-open the trail, but it will take some time. How much time, I don't know, but we will keep fighting for it here in Moab. By staying off the trail for now, we are all showing respect and responsibility, which can only help us in the long run.

I have been having a good family trip to Moab and used the opertunity to visit some people. I visited the BLM office and had a long talk with Katie Stevens. She believes we complain too much as the clubs in Moab were given every chance to list trails they wanted. She is the person writing up the decision on Coyote Canyon and said she could not comment on the results until they are released. I don't think it matters but she said both sides win some and loose some.
I then had a short visit with Dan Mick at the Moab Diner. Mostly just talk.

Any news on this yet:confused:

A bunch of Canadians are coming down again in May and I would love to have access to this trail again :)

BLM announced last week that Coyote will be re-opened, although there are some restrictions. There will be a 30 day protest/appeal period, and then if everything goes okay we can start working on fencing, signage, and everything else we need to do to open it. Hopefully we can have it open by May.

We have been given permission to run Coyote Canyon :)

We did all the paperwork and have been given our passes and the code to the gate for the Saturday we are down there. Apparently we are one of the very first groups to be given the trial access. We will do everything we can to make sure we do everything 100% by the rules so more people can use this trail.

There will be 5 trucks/buggies in our group, but I have done this trail numerous times in the past before it was shut down so I am very familiar with the trail and ares. We are also well read up on the rules and regs and will adhere to them!

Congrats on getting in! The MFFW crew ran it last weekend and posted up a really great report as they were actually the very first group through. Make sure you post up a report from your trip, jealous that you guys will be running it so soon!

We sure will

The lady on the phone was unsure if anyone had run it yet as it was the first time she had done the paperwork for it......but she said someone would mos likely be up there to check it out. Glad others are getting in too! More responsible use will be a giant step in the right direction :)

I think it's also pretty noteworthy that a crew from Canada is registered for Coyote and planning on running it. Just goes to show just how world class of a trail it really is and that it does help promote tourism in the area.

The BLM was very nice and helpful about registration. I have my gate code and confirmation set for June 8th. :)
I'll post pics and such from my trip there. Its been a long time since I drove that trail. I remember when it was pretty much a unknown side trail. We'd run that then run up the wash to lower helldorado, then on to upper hellderado. Man that was some years ago now, ahh, the good ol' days.....

Looking forward to running this trail again.
