It's the military's Chemical Agent Resistant Coating. From what guys in Draper have told me, it's pretty nasty to work with and very unhealthy to be around while curing. It's really abrasion resistant though and will last forever.

Where does one get their hands on such “paint”?

I'm not exactly sure for civilian use. The guys in Draper just orders it through the Army system.

Worked on this from about noon to just now... not loving the results with a spray can. Too streaky for me. Tough to keep a wet edge on a hood with flat paint.

Results are pretty disappointing... I'll have to figure something else out

I dig how the grille looks.

I'll paint a hinge or something and run down and have a paint match done at an auto paint store. It'll work out. I'm not running a hood with crusty dry crumbs in the paint

I do have a very suspicious transmission leak of late ( :( ) I hope I don't have a cracked 700r4 case but it's definitely possible.

YEARS of stickers, damage, sand (where'd that come from?), and use are coming off this thing. Most of the "rust" is actually sand but 95% of it is coming off with some 180 paper. There are some areas that will be a rust problem in 10+ years. I'm not sure I'll care about the body tub at that point? We'll clean it up and see where it is next time I have the rocker and quarter protection off.

This Jeep was envisioned as a 2-3 year hard core trail rig when I built it in 2003-2004. I'm now at 20 years with it. Still has most of the major components on it from when it was built. It's kind of fun to read this thread and remember other things as I'm working on it.

windshield frame from Todd Adams (deceased)
some cage work from Russ Fullmer (deceased)
tie rod work with Shawn from RME
crossmember work with @James K from RME
rocker protection from @Greg
dashboard from @RockMonkey
some transfer case parts from @bryson
hydraulic assist from @rocklogic4x4 (@Vonski @I Lean @bryson ) from a giveaway on RME
body/frame from Caleb
CJ stuff from @BCGPER (down to one part left of that Jeep now)
cage was from someone on the slc-jeeplist
tailgate from someone on RME

I'm sure I'm missing a lot of folks that have contributed to this build. It's fun to have other people's hand in something I've had so long, spent as much trail time as it has and contributed to my kids' upbringing. We'll throw some grandkids in this in a few years (not an announcement). The rig is morphing a little bit but will still be able to do some difficult trails at times. It'll mostly be used for Moab stuff, maybe a little Sand Hollow stuff but I'm not real excited about trail fixes and such these days. It's had it's share and if those come, we'll deal with them. I'll not go looking for them.

I wonder how many "trail days" and miles towed this dawg has on it? 5 houses of mine it's sat in. Been towed by 6-8 vehicles and 5-6 trailers.
