General Tech What did you work on Today?

That sucks. I hate clunks, rattles and squeaks of any kind and keeping a tight and noise free vehicles isn't always easy. BUT, it is well worth it for peace of mind without having those noises take up space in your head. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Go out and use it yes, bash it into rocks, I hope not. My son babies his Jeep nearly as much as I do mine so it will see off-road but not flogged on. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thank you. That was a tricky bumper to make look clean and match the lines of the vehicle. Hands down the most intricate bumper I've built thus far. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Last night I broke everything down, blended the last piece (center section) and prepped everything to take to the powder coater. Thanks for looking. Mike

Jeep LS swap for the LJ

I'm fairly certain the ones Rockchucker posted are Gen IV LS3 manifolds. The Gen IV truck/SUV manifolds exit a little further forward and the 2008~ish Trailblazer exit at the rear like the LS3 ones but angled slightly rearward and are a 3-bolt flange. I ended up using the 2008 Trailblazer...

Jeep LS swap for the LJ

Great job so far. The devil is in the details and the details take much more time than the meat & potatoes of the job for sure. As for the exhaust manifolds, look at the mid-2000's Trailblazer manifolds as they hug nicely to the block and exit to the rear of the head and angled downward to the...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thank you. This one has definitely been the most intricate of the bumpers that I have built so far, especially trying to keep it matching the lines of the Grand Cherokee and not have it look like a flat plate or eyesore hung on the front. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thank you. Yeah, my son said the same thing, clearcoat and call it done but it needs to be body color. Thanks for the comments. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

We were able to get more work done on my son’s WJ winch bumper on Saturday. We started by clamping each wing to the fab table for knocking down the welds and metal finishing all of the pieces. Winch mocked into position to determine light placement. KC LED lights mocked up in place...

"The American Life Is Killing You"

My wife and I had somewhat of a conversation about this last night after she was having a conversation with a co-worker yesterday that was looking at buying a "summer" home and trying to figure out if they would utilize it enough to justify. My wife said she wouldn't want to always go to the...

"The American Life Is Killing You"

Agreed. I keep telling myself that my wife and I are rich beyond measure but by different terms than what society measures. Like you I'm glad I busted my ass and sacrificed early in life so I can slow down later in life and enjoy the fruits of our labors. Mike

"The American Life Is Killing You"

I would say I agree with the article but disagree to the extent that not everyone feels the same way or at least there are different versions of the "American Dream". I also think my wife and I are trying to break away in our own way yet keep our lifestyle which means we are more focused on...

How long have you had your rig?

Our previous Jeep we bought in May of 1998 with 33k miles on the odometer and kept it until end of 2011 (13~ish years) with 189k miles on the odometer. It was our daily driver, weekend wheeler and toad that we drug along behind our coach. My wife and I purchased our currnent 2011 JKUR in...

How long have you had your rig?

I'll be that guy as I don't plan on selling mine and will still have it 10-15 years from now driving it and wheeling it during retirement. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

We were able to finish up most of the welding on the wings on Saturday morning. Prior to disassembly, we tacked some side wings on the center section to fill the gap between the lower radiator mount and the outer wings. Then removed all of the modular components to complete the welding and...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. Bumpers are not exactly my favorite thing to build, I just can't seem to buy anyone else's and put them on my vehicles. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thanks Bart. The design was what we were struggling the most with. Trying to keep with the clean lines of the WJ rather than detract from them. It has so many body angles one can't merely throw up a couple of large flat plates like on a Wrangler and have it look good. I appreciate the...
