    Mini Excavators

This is great! I love the idea of a 3000 lb machine for convenience, but I haven't done anything with one more than just digging a trench. My hunch is it wouldn't work well to dig out a stump or something like that. Brian, What size machines did you find inadequate and for what kind of tasks?

    Mini Excavators

Yea, There are a few cases where a small backhoe would be more useful, but the excavator is nicer to dig with. Also with a small excavator, I can drive over the grass if I need to and just throw down a sheet of plywood to turn on. This is a big deal since my yard is pretty finished.

    Mini Excavators

This is probably a strange subject for this board, and I realize the EJS enthusiasts are out of town, but here goes: I've got a bunch of yard projects that I could use a small backhoe/excavator for. Retaining walls, footings, stumps to remove, etc. Due to the prolonged nature of some of...

How many of you have a second property?

I have an RV pad at my home with 50 amp power, water, etc. although there isn't really enough space for just anyone to back into as well as my other toys are kindof blocked in by an RV. I'm guessing this would be a no-go for us. If it were recreational property, for me, there would always be...

How many of you have a second property?

Have had a couple of homes that we rented out when we moved instead of selling. It became more hassle than I wanted to deal with and we are back to one. This was pre-2008, so we made pretty good bank on the sale. Currently looking at a duplex in Rexburg for one of my boys to stay in while...

    Welding helmets Created equal?

Ah! I bet that would help me, too. A good work light probably wouldn't hurt, either. Thanks

    Welding helmets Created equal?

So enlighten us as to what a cheater lens is?? I always have troubles seeing in certain kinds of light. Adjusting the darkness of the auto filter doesn't seem to help.

    Trigger locks

Probably not much help, but I'm not a fan of trigger locks in general. If you don't/can't have it in a safe, I prefer the cable type lock that goes through the action. In my mind, this blocks the ability of the action to even chamber a round.

Hey Stratton - I tried to talk my son into it - he bought this instead. I must admit it might be a good vehicle for his death metal band!

I feel for you, Brian, but what other vehicle on earth self destructs if you don't have a coolant filter? I don't think my Freightliner has one. That being said, thanks for keeping your dirty laundry aired out here. It is good for all of us to see as we contemplate buying a truck.

    Visiting Kona, suggestions?

Its been a few years, but highlights for me and wife were volcanoes national park - especially hiking down into the crater, and visiting the hot lava flows out near the ocean.

    Ham radio question...

Frankly, the radio was enough for 90% of what I want to do, but I do like being able to hit repeaters with the ham. The rest was half resolution and the other half was the lack of an intuitive interface on the gps functions.

    Ham radio question...

I'll qualify this by saying I've been ham licensed for years - use it only occasionally. Consider this an amateur opinion: I have a couple of baofengs and a kenwood handy. The baofengs are ok for what you pay for them. They don't feel as well-made as the kenwood or the icom/yaesu models I've...
