That is what I would guess. I doubt if the average person will notice much difference - otherwise too many people would not opt in... It'll be interesting to see how this rolls out.

Hmmm - haven't heard of them. Is it the same concept or stuff as are used to heat MREs?

Shouldn't be a problem to plug it in every night. It is especially helpful if the truck stays outside. Most are not quite as sophisticated as having a pump and all - usually just a heating element that replaces one of the freeze plugs in the block. Simple and very effective.

My turbo diesels cool down fast, but a diesel turbo will cool down way faster than gas due to wide-open airflow.

Even of the threads are broken off a little ways in, just put a washer over the hole that is slightly smaller than the hole, then the nut. If it is broken off more than ~1/8 inch down, then welding the nut on might not be a good idea.
