The 55w HID is going to push farther than the halogen upgradable 100w bulbs.

Not sure what I was looking at before, but I'm seeing 1,200-1,500 foot range for the driving lights.

Driving light pattern. From diagrams online, the 500 series lights are pushing just over 90 meters; so around 300 feet out. That's with the standard 500FF setup. These 55watt HID lamps will produce more light @ less power.

Looking good! Speaking from Offroad fire rescue experience, that 2.5lb bottle won't amount to much in the event of a car fire - large or small. I'd recommend a larger bottle in addition to that 2.5lber. It's gotta be accessible FAST.
