    Cheap MIG welder discussion.

See if you can track down a used or refurbished Millermatic. I have a 211 at work, and this is the first welder I used with truly good auto set settings. The Vulcan welders at HF check a lot of the right boxes, but I haven't had any real hands on them with them to see if they are for real or...

    Airbrushes

I used to use one of the mid level Paasche airbrushes, with a tire for my air supply as I never had the spare change for a proper compressor. There's lots of options out there, integral cup or screw on jar underneath, single and double action, etc. The type you use is a mix of personal...

My Next Project: 1965 Sunbeam Alpine

Years back, one of my coworkers had a huge antique Rolls Royce. The towing company at the shipyard was a bit overzealous, and would remove any car that didn't park properly in a space. This car would hang out about a foot past the end of the lines, so it would get towed, and they would wind up...

Another impulse purchase.....I'm getting a little carried away.

Just make sure they kept the balance right when they painted it. Those planes have a notoriously small COG envelope, and the forked tail is not very trim friendly. Get some specific training on that thing if you can as well.

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Nice. I did at least a set every week at one shop. Got pretty quick at them too, a topside creeper is a required tool though.

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I could stand to forget how many of those I've done. Did any of the injector cups come loose?

    Today I Want This....

You can get Mitsubishi Delica vans for way less in the Seattle area. Available diesel, manual, 4x4....... There's one in Tacoma for under $9k that needs a clutch. Why did I have to look at these?

    Jeep Ermagherd...

I just want them to actually offer the steel wheels shown on Way out as an option. Jeeps look so much more capable with a nice clean steel wheel than some bling wheels.

    Jeep Ermagherd...

While it's not quite enough to turn me mechasexual, it's a hell of a looker.

Tools that you just can't live without

I once had a co-worker who insisted, in words, that zip ties needed to be cut at a 45* angle about 1/4" from the lock. He said that was how his instructor said to do it. I told him everyone think he's an asshole. That was about standard for that guy's intelligence level. I used to use a zip...

Shop / Tools Wanted: TIG Welding Stainless Steel Tips

Stainless moves around a lot. You'll want to skip weld and let it cool, practice on some scrap first. I always use a foot pedal for good control on that sort of stuff. You may find some benefits to using flux on the backside of the weld (there's a special paint on stainless flux that helps...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Not really 4x4 related, but had to change a valve spring in a 2017 Ford V10. I've never seen one of these break a spring before, it only has 50k on it.
