General Tech What did you work on Today?

    ZMotorSports 2011 JKUR Build Thread

Well I “nearly “ did my entire engine swap on my Jeep without any custom parts. No big deal though as I at least machined a part that I can replace bearings in and only have to carry a spare bearing with me. The reasoning is twofold, first I wanted to have just a little larger pulley to get...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thanks Jeremy, that is a perfect example of the tack, tack, tack method as indicated by its distinctive dimple or crater. Sometimes on mine if I whip too far ahead and move back I will get a small depression similar to that crater but you can tell the difference by the way the toes are wet out...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thank you. Just for the record, these are NOT a series of tack welds or tac, tac, tac, etc. This is squeezing the trigger once and manipulating the gun to get the desired affect. I do one of several techniques based on the situation. I will either move forward in a cursive "e" pattern or...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Shouldn't be any issues. The latch is near the bottom 2"x3" tube and it is a good inch away so there is no way for it to make contact with the latch. The square tube at the upper portion for the tire mount is a half inch below the inset for the license plate and nearly 2 inches from the gate...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

So the rear bumper of my son's WJ is done and ready to break down and bring to the powder coater. Fabricating the lower support for the swing away tire carrier. I pie cut the 2”x3” tube to mirror the angle of the bumper. Vertical for the tire mount. I bent the 1.5” diameter tubing at...

    ZMotorSports 2011 JKUR Build Thread

A little change of direction tonight. I took a break from my son’s WJ bumper to try and abate a slight belt chirp in the belt train on my Jeep. Upon initial startup I’d get some belt chirp until the belt warmed a bit in which it would then reside. Visual inspection wasn’t revealing anything so...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

You've got that right. There were a lot of small cuts, bends and pieces to fill to make it look decent, which is probably why the mass produced ones don't look as refined with large gaps and open sections. I don't think it would be a beneficial bumper to mass produce from a cost perspective...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thanks Bart. I have to admit last night after installing the blended/metal finished bumper and standing back to look at it I wasn't upset. It's not as hard on the eyes as I was originally thinking it would be when I started building the behemoth of a bumper. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

I finished metal finishing the main body of my son's WJ bumper tonight as well as did a major cleaning of my shop. I had soooo much grinding dust on the floor it was disgusting. Grinding is definitely NOT something I do very often and it hands down my least favorite thing to do. Next...

    Diff fluid.

This. Droop the axle out and gain you some working space. Other than that it is pretty straight forward to remove diff cover, clean surface, replace cover and fill. I've tried the pressurized containers and although they work, they can be a PITA still. I merely install a piece of 1/2" clear...

For Sale **SOLD** 2007 Suburban LS 4x4

I told my wife this is probably why I keep my shit so long because I hate having to deal with people and their bullshit when I'm trying to sell something. I know my stuff is nice when I sell it and people don't want to give me anything for it with their low ball insulting offers and playing...

For Sale 18’ PJ carhauler trailer

Damn, if it had 5200 lb axles with brakes on both I would be all over it. Decent deal though. Good luck with the sale. Mike

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thank you. This was hands down the most intricate bumper I have built to date. That WJ has such a big ass it was hard to make it look nice. Took me a couple of attempts out of cardboard to get some lines I was happy with. Even then I cut the first piece of steel and tacked it in place and...
