Someone answer this brake line question for me.

Drums actually take more volume to actuate as the wheel cylinders have to travel further. The front pads are nearly touching the rotor, while the shoes don't touch the drums until applied. However, the wheel cylinders typically ride in the same place so don't need a big volume of fluid to take...

    Turf

I'm not looking forward to this myself. My place has an irrigation system, but it's in unknown shape, and the lawn hadn't been mowed in a year or so when we got it.

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

Watch the short term fuel trims while spraying, the idle air controller can hold the rpm pretty steady.

Double check for leaks in the intake tube, extra air can also make the trims move around a bit.

    DANA 80 front axle build

I can't get over how massive those knuckles are. It's like something built up for Mad Max.

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

On another forum I'm on, the cure all for odd problems is a thorough "stage 0". Basically a major tune-up, plus standard wear items like water pump, idler, belt, and tensioner, brake pads, suspension bushings, then work on making the heavy slow car fast.

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

Generally, the computer expects to have a certain amount of fuel available, and if there is less it'll start cranking up the trims trying to get more fuel in there. Usually they'll give a P0171 lean code first, but my Explorer didn't give that code until it started stumbling a bit. Check the...

Ok, so you'll have to manually test the pressure.

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

Yeah, it's spiking up a bit. Ford went to a returnless system sometime in the early 2000s, and that system had a computer controlled fuel pump. The ECM would send a signal to the fuel pump driver, and the driver would vary the pump speed. The signal to the driver would only be 20-50%. If the...

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

How are your fuel trims? Short term and long term added together need to be under 10%. Watch the trims just prior to the misfires, I wouldn't be surprised if they start climbing.

    Flashlights

That's wild. I had a co-worker put a 3v battery on an 8v charger once, when it blew up it cracked the security window it was sitting by. It sounded like someone shot a gun in the shop.

Ford Brian's bronco 2 gets wontons and dddd

For some reason I don't think they intended that drivetrain to be used quite like that. Just a guess.

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

Whenever I have a connectivity issue with Car Gauge, it recommends the OBDLink MX dongle. I don't think that'll help with forgetting to turn the key on.

I didn't see the specific one I have anymore, but check the reviews. The mini ones and the v1.5 are generally junk though.

OBD II code reader / app

I'm not sure. I have a Kindle fire, but it's all locked down for the kids. I didn't see any apps in their store for this sort of stuff, but I might see if I can drop my program onto the SD card and transfer it. It'll be a little while before I can do that though.

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

Ok, assuming you have an Android phone, get Car Gauge Pro from the play store (it's around $8) and get a Bluetooth v2.1 elm327 adapter off eBay. The tiny cheap ones are junk, usually the $20 range ones are good. If you have an iPhone, pick up a cheap Android phone too. I have not found a...

    Today I Want This....

I can't believe they're selling that with the fire equipment. Usually they pull that and put it on the new truck, there tends to be more money wrapped up in that than the truck itself.

Need help with Ford 5.4 misfire

Ford take a huge number of misfires to throw a check engine light. Does Torque give you access to Mode 6 data? That'll give you the raw misfire counts before the check engine light comes on. I use Car Gauge Pro myself, if you have one of the good ELM327 Bluetooth dongles then it's well worth...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

New intake manifold on my wife's Explorer, the old one did the standard plastic corrosion thing and pushed out the seal under the thermostat housing. Difference between old OE and new Dorman: There's a lot more meat under that housing, and a different seal style so hopefully this'll be taken...

Wanted In need of 245/75R16 tires

Still looking, I'll be in SLC area for the Off Road show next weekend. Ideally I'd like to get some LT tires, I'd like to not have the P type squish on the already soft Explorer.
