    ZJ 242 to 231 swap

Yes you can get them from Tom but the 231 SYE has more suppliers and the shaft is stronger. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the 242 shafts however.

    ZJ 242 to 231 swap

The 231 main shaft is larger than the 242 main shaft and it is easier to get parts for a slip yoke eliminator on the 231. As long as the spline count matches the swap is very easy.

How many of you have a Cherokee XJ??

In our family we have 10 Jeeps: three TJ, four XJ, one CJ, one MJ, and one J Truck. We also have an MJ for parts, and lots of spare parts to keep them all running.

anyone know where to find a 91xj?

The PicknPull usually has a bunch of XJs and I think they don't charge that much. If you wanted to try a test, I have one for my trail spare that you could plug in and see if it fixes the problem.

    SUWA's letters of shame

I didn't have a cell phone so I didn't call them in but I should have driven back into town to report them. I know this happens stuff everywhere, since it has happened more than once to our family, but when it is done by off-roaders it gives SUWA types more "proof" that all off-roaders are like...

    SUWA's letters of shame

Unfortunately there is some truth to some of the stories, the last time down to Moab I saw lots of places where the ATV and motorcycle riders have driven right past clearly marked signs and into areas where they shouldn't have been. I have seen areas in the Uintas, Stansbury range and many west...

    Crossing over..

That's why I built my Scrambler the way I did, we like to go camping, fishing, exploring, hunting, rock hounding, and wheeling so I tried to make it capable of wheeling on the rough stuff yet be able to haul all of the gear when we take off camping or all of the other fun stuff. I have always...

Lakeside, Utah. winter in the desert

The Lakeside mountains are just west of the Great Salt Lake and north of I80. You can access the area from several freeway off ramps: the Dugway/Skull Valley exit, Delle exit, or the military range exit that is after Delle. My son and I were out there a few weeks back, we went towards the...

    XJ Gears and Swap

Most of the 4.10 gear sets that I have seen on xjs are in the 84-86 range. My 86 has them. Almost all of the newer ones came with 3.55 ratios. If someone came up with a set of 4.10 gears for my xj d44 that I'm fixing up I would donate my d35 rear with 4.10 gears. :) Dave

    Rebuilding a Warn 8274

I am rebuilding an old Warn 8274 winch and have found that the end drum support bracket bearing hole is worn out of round. The bushing that protects the aluminum from the steel drum must have worn out allowing the steel to take off some of the aluminum. Does anyone know of a place that could put...

    cj-7 4.2l to 4.0l

I did this swap on my 84 cj8. I used a 99 TJ 4.0 with 93 XJ wiring and injectors. There is a good forum for this swap on cjoffroad.com. The 4.0 will bolt right up to the same motor mounts and tranny. If you use your old tranny you have to figure out where to put the crank position sensor. Hesco...

Mudflap citation for the wimpiest jeep in the family

I know he was doing his job, I just don't understand why he couldn't issue a fix it ticket. My son in law who is a police officer laughed about it and said the officer must have been having a bad day. He said he wouldn't have ticketed it. We have fixed the jeep by taking out the lift and flaps...

Mudflap citation for the wimpiest jeep in the family

The officer told me flat out the reason he didn't give me a ticket was because of the exemplary way I handled myself. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, there's a few bad apples wherever you go. /on topic Get some mudflaps, sinner! :greg: Well my wife was very pleasant with him...

    rebuilding a Saginaw steering box???

I have rebuilt several of these, some by just putting in new seals on the input and output shafts and others by rebuilding the whole thing. The ones where I only replaced the easy to get to seals would usually start leaking again down the road a while. If you rebuild the entire unit there are a...

Mudflap citation for the wimpiest jeep in the family

Well I pulled the lift out so there shouldn't be an issue anymore. I may get flaps anyway for extra insurance. Now that my Scrambler is done I don't need to wheel in the grocery hauler. I may need new rear springs because the tail is dragging, I think the add a leaf weakened the springs above it .
