Sucks to hear you talk about selling it but it's all in good reasoning. What are you thinking for another build if you do? I know you have talked about a buggy. I love my blazer and like that it's not just another jeep (sucks to be the only Chevy out there each time I have gone since something always brakes an then the Chevy is that guy) but if I had to start over, I think I would do something similar to Nate's rig. That or a goat built buggy or a already built buggy. Due date is in March isn't it?

Due date is Tuesday which happens to be the day my wife is having a c-section.

With the chance of going overseas soon a buggy or even a dedicated trail rig really isn't a good choice. I'm thinking XJ or SAS'd Toyota or something along those lines.

Sorry to hear it Brian, but I would be doing the same thing.

As much as I love toyotas, I think an xj is going to be cheaper to build. If you buy a built rig, then it's probably a wash.

Luckily for me I stopped getting attached to vehicles a long time ago.

I know for sure an XJ will be cheaper to build, part of me just wants to do something different this time. Obviously I've got some work to do on the JK before it's in a good place to be sold so I need to focus on fixing the little issues that I've been ignoring for a long time and take it from there. Once I figure out how much I should get out of it then I can start a budget for a build plan for whatever is next.

I really just mean different for me. I haven't wheeled a rig that didn't gave a payment in so long it would be a nice change

So after thinking on this all day I'm very positive this is going to happen.

I'll continue this thread to document the little issues I'll be fixing. I need to get this thing to pass safety which really isn't going to take much. There's more beyond that that I will continue to work on until it's sold.

To tell the truth I'm actually excited about the idea of a new rig and not just a new rig but one I'm going to build. I'm also going to keep the AllJeep.com spirit alive since they have done so much for me on this rig I will be buying everything I can from them. The most likely rig will be an XJ, they are cheap and I know Jeeps. I could do a Toyota but it would have to be a 4-Runner and I don't really feel like doing an SAS at this point.

You should do a build similar to how I built my dads, I love how well that thing performs

His rig is part of my inspiration right now actually, mix a little of your dads XJ and Nate's XJ and I think I'll be able to have a great rig.

Yeah my dad was against cutting from the start and still is. If you are willing to cut you can really take an XJ to the next level

Skippy Sr's jeep and Todd's (weird cat guy) are two examples of sweet XJ's that were cheap and perform well while still being easily street legal. It's not like there are a ton of obstacles that mine is better than theirs for... It just suits my driving style and needs much better. Hopefully that makes sense. I'm just glad you want to keep wheeling and don't care what vehicle it's in as long as we can still wheel together

If you didn't know I had a stupid no start issue. Thought it was the TIPM and ended up just shoving it off to the dealership to deal with. Been a week now without my Jeep but they just called and said it was a simple wiring issue and they have it fixed. It needed a new battery as well but that was not contributing to the no start issue. Now to just post it back up for sale and probably drop the price quite a bit because I really need to move this thing. Probably try to sell it as is and not deal with fixing too much of the issues.

It's been a while since I've discovered this but a while back I was doing so PM on the Jeep and discovered that my front upper frame side control arm bushings where toast. Not sure of the cause and I'm not complaining one bit about the quality of TF stuff since all my other bushings are in great shape.

The obvious solution was to get some rebuild joints from TF....tough luck on that one since they can't keep the front uppers in stock. Got tired of waiting and went ahead and gave the guys over at Metalcloak a call and they set me up with some weld on duroflex joints. Somewhere in the communication it got missed that teraflex uses a 9/16" bolt and Metalcloak uses a 1/2" bolt for the upper joints so I had to get with Midnight 4x4 to get me some weld washers which they hooked me up with pretty quick I just haven't had time to deal with it.

I didn't discover to bolt size discrepancy until after I had cut the Teraflex joint from the threaded shank and welded to new joint onto the shank and tried to install it. So in the meantime I'm rolling 3 link style until I get this fixed, which will have to wait until after next Saturday when I get back from Oregon.

Once I get the control arms sorted out I'll take it in and get it on an alignment rack and see of they can tell if my axle housing is bent. Once I know for sure I'll get a game plan for a new housing and probably new gears at the same time.

Looking at changing out the teraflex joints on the upper frame side of the front long arms. What size of duroflex joint did you use? I noticed some have 9/16" BH and some have 1/2" hoping I can get one with 9/16" so I don't have to use weld washers.
