100 Pushups

It was definitely and investment but I love having it at home. I love my kids working out with me. I love cranking the music and not having headphones get in the way. I love being able to super set without anyone jumping in or getting in my way.
By far has been the best move for me my training has never been more consistent.

This isn't the most current pic but the best to show the general layout.

I love checking this thread. Pushups are not a current goal of mine but I still like to follow along with you guys progress. My current goal is a 300lb bench and a 450 deadlift by Christmas.

So I actually maxed out on Sunday and hit the 300lb bench so the new goal is 320 by Christmas and still 450 deadlift. My last deadlift max was 415 so I have some work to do on that one.

That's a pretty sweet setup! Are you happy you bought the cables?

There's a guy that sells overstock weight equipment on KSL, do you think that's my best bet for weights and dumbbells?

I am happy with the cables. I want a free motion machine and hope to score a deal on a used one someday to replace them but until then these are working great. The dumbbells took a while to find a full set. Mine go from 5-50 in 2.5lb increments then 55-70 lbs in 5lb increments then 70-100 in 10's I paid $1200 with the two racks but they where in Boise so it was a drive to get them.
The bumper plates I bought new from fringe and they where $580 for a set of 10/15/25/45/45/45 then the steel plates I picked up at dicks for $200 with a cheap bar I never use but it was cheap for a full set. The bar, rower and a lot of the little stuff came from rouge fitness. They are proud of their stuff but its all high quality and its what I wanted. Then both benches came from Amazon.

It just comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend. LIke the dumbbells I knew I was going to have to find used because I was looking at $4k plus for a full set with racks but with the bumperplates and barbell I never found much better deals on used stuff then new.

Thank man, that really helps me put a 'best case' price on those things. I think your setup now is about all I would need to be happy. Those free motion machines are spendy!!

I'm not in the best of shape but around July I tried doing the challenge however I fell off the wagon at week 3. But about a month ago I went to the gym and I was able to bench press 3 sets of 10 at 135lbs which I was proud of because I wanna be able to put up the 45lb plates. Then maybe 2 weeks ago I did a max rep set and did 29 good form push ups.

Point being this program definitely helped and i need to get back on it.

Thanks man. I definitely should get on it. Winter is a slow time and if I'm not careful I stack on the lbs quick.

Wow, really not feeling it today. I struggled hard with the second set and couldn't finish the third.

Some kinda bug, or maybe I just suck, I couldn't complete my sets earlier today either. I'll be doing Week 2 again starting Monday.

Alright, for those that are complaining about being sore, my training coach is putting on a mobility clinic on Dec 5th. Mobility isn't anything to do with stretching or yoga so get those thoughts out of your head. It deals directly with your pains and teaches you how to address them. You use lacross balls, rollers, barbells, and other tools to work those pains. Even if you aren't sore, you will benefit from this class. If anyone is interested it's available to all. I'll get a cost but the last couple have been $40, it's a 4 hour class.

Interesting take on the concept: http://www.100pushups.com/greasing-the-groove/

I have dropped out of the original plan. Again. Just like last time, I got to the point where I was not able to get past the end of week two in good form no matter how many times I repeated it. I'm back to a regular M/W/F routine at the gym, weightlifting and "running" (read, impersonating a retarded rhino drunk on cheap wine). I have not given up on the idea of performing a set of 100 pushups, but I think that original plan was no good for me. Googling for new exercises to work into my sets, I found the link above. I might give it a shot.

If you're looking for exercises (coming up with new things has always been a tough thing for me to do, so I ended up doing the same stuff every day), I snap a picture pretty much every day of what I do. I'd be happy to post those up. Most of the exercises, if you don't know what they are, you can google them and get a video showing how to do them. My training is primarily geared towards getting stronger, not dropping lbs. For example, in 6 months, I've gone from a 225 dead lift to a 405 dead lift. Some of that increase was correcting my form, but a lot of it is training 5 days a week with the goal of getting stronger. My programs generally go in 6 week intervals, then we start a new program. We generally have one core exercise and then several ancillary exercises. I usually workout for an hour or so each day and if I push pretty hard, I can get through it all in that time.

Another suggestion, Bodybuilder.com has a pretty good set of exercises with videos showing how to do them. You could build a pretty good training program with those.

I'm a bit of a gym noob, knowing what exercises to combine for an efficient workout and how to rotate them isn't something I know much about. It'd be great to see how you do it.

I hear you on putting good workouts together. I'll start a new thread and start posting my what I do each day.

I've been getting my butt kicked with these push-ups as well. I'm really strong on set 1 and 2 but 3,4 are only half as good and 5 is basically exhaustion

If you guys are set on getting high volume push-ups in but are having issues check out Mark Bells slingshot. It's designed for bench press but works really well for push-ups also. It basically gives you assistance allowing you to keep better form and get more volume in. I use it a couple times a month on high volume bench days and it really helps me get the work in without killing my shoulders.

If if any of you guys ever want to try it out or even just get a workout in everyone is always welcome at my gym.

Eh - it's not that I'm dying to do a hundred pushups or anything, I just want to be in shape enough that I can. Maybe that's a small difference, I dunno, but I feel like it matters. The pushups aren't a goal themselves, they're just a metric to help me know when I'm getting to where I want to be, does that make sense?
