So here is the story....I got pulled over for having tires that are too wide, and no mudflaps. I have only owned my Zuk for 35 days so I am still workin on it a lot. The cop comes back and says why do you have Idaho plates and still live in Utah? So a long story short he ticketed me (didn't give me a warning for not knowing) for out of state licence plates. I have it registered in Idaho because it won'd pass down here. So my question is, does anyone know how I can get out of this thing without paying a grand, then having to get my rig ready to pass emitions and safety? Someone out there has got to have some info, so I am putting it out there in the universe.....Please help me.

[stern father voice]Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you really live in Idaho (not in orem like your username says) you broke the law. You have to follow it, or pay penalties just like the rest of us. You also have a RIGHT to know. Ignorance is not an excuse![/stern father voice]

I have recieved moving violations in the past and been able to reduce them in two ways.
1. Go to the governing agency ie city attorney's office and tell them you will change your actions now that you have been enlightened. Ask for mercy.
2. Appear in court and admit your stupidity and ask for mercy.
These have worked for me depending on the jurisdiction. Some do, some don't. I have not tried to use them on a violation similar to yours, but it can't hurt to try.

Why cant you pass. I have had a zuk that failed 5xs over the max limit and after a bit of time and under $100 I had the zuk pass IM with a decent score. Let us know why it wont pass. We can help you out.

1000.00 seems really steep, i am not saying what you did was right, but damm thats a big ticket. does that town you got pulled over in need a new fire truck or a park being restored, if so you just gave them a good down payment. i would fight or at least try to get it reduced, plead with the judge take his ugly kid out for a date do somthing to knock that fine down, jason.

Just remember if/ when you go to court or attorney's office you are asking forgiveness not telling them why they are wrong. I guarantee they will stick it to anybody with an attitude.

yeah seemingly it was a grand for the out of area thing.....

I was skeered, very skeered, when a Tundra side swiped me ( Dang Utah Cunty Drivers - center/main intersection in Springville) as we were living, and had been living with my sister there, scared his sense of humor about my "just relocated, and hadn't updated everything to Ute as no permanent addy (the truth actually) would keep me from that ticket.

The cool thing about Ute, is accidents are a civil manner, not a traffic manner.... NO POINTS on the MVR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeeahh baybee!

Hey guys thanks a lot for all of the info I think that it will help. There is no doubt about it that I am at fault, I just want someone to tell me who I need to sleep with so I don't have to pay that 1000 bucks. After much study I think that it will pass, I just can't find any fender flares for the thing I have 2 inch spacers and 12.5 inch wide tires so I need at least 6 inches of flare to cover. I heard that bushwacker "made" them but doesnt' anymore, and also MGR or someone like that made them at one time as well. I just really don't want to make some home made crappy thing that looks stupid. I have seen cool home made jobs that look good, but I am not that talented.
Anyways thanks again for all of the info.

Maybe the sami guys will chime in, but i thought some people used bushwackers for jeeps wranglers (YJ?). They looked like a lot of cutting, but that is always a good thing. Very clean when finished.

In order for it to pass inspection, you need to take the spacers off. I would put some stock wheels on for inspections, that way you may not need flares. From my experience if you are running mud flaps, the cops wont hassle you, even without flares.

I wondered if jeep flares would work, but I think some dude from Rocky Road said that they wouldn't fit, so I don't know really?

I like the idea of having stock wheels on to pass, but that will look really funny because this thing is tall. Anyone out there have some wheels that will fit a sami for sale?

I have jeep fender flares on my zuk and I can tell you they work. I have 2 rear sets off a YJ and with a little trimming they work great.

In order for it to pass inspection, you need to take the spacers off.

My scout just passed w/ spacers on the front. I asked them why they were shaking their heads as I pulled in & if it was due to the spacers & they said those were ok but I needed fender flares. It may just be the shop/inspector. I just picked up 20' of 5 or 6" garden edging at Home Depot for $20 and a few dollars for sheet metal screws since there are no flares for early scouts:-\ It may not look the best but they liked it & it keeps me legal:)

I ended up ditching the spacers up front and H1 rims and just got some nice :brett: style rims since I got a good deal on them:rofl: They look to pretty to beat up:sick:

Was always scared of that ticket while I lived in Orem, with Id plates, I think though, the law states that you have a year....(?) to get it switched over.

it's only 2 months and the only exceptions are if you are military or a student.
