My 4wd wont engage the little light next to the "4wd" button just blinks and then jumps back to the 2wd symbol button. I'm just wondering if this is pretty common in these trucks and if there's a quick fix? Thanks

Going from 2 High to 4 High should be pretty easy. Press the button, maybe a few blinks then it will go.

What you describe happens when you go into 4 Low. To do that you need to be in Park or Neutral. If you are in gear it won't allow the shift.

Try it again from both Park and Neutral to see if any thing different happens. Also are you going from 2H or 4H?

these vehicles have alot of trouble with the encoder motor on the transfer case. this is the part that is attached to the side of the case next to the front drive line with all the wires coming out of it. they are not cheap to replace!

Like above usually its the t case motor. I thin kthe last one i bought was 150-200, they do sell them aftermarket through checker, carquest etc

I had a 2000 Silverado that had trouble shifting in and out of 4wd and all it was was the switch assembly on the dash. I think it was about $75 from the dealer, just pull the old one and plug in the new one.

I'm having the same problem with mine. There isn't a after market set up to by-pass all the the electrical on them and go manual is there? It just sucks not knowing if your 4 wheel drive is going to engage or not especially when you need it.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
9 out of 10 times it's the switch in the dash that goes out. I have replaced a few of them on different trucks.

There is a way to manual the front diff, it gets rid of the actuator on the front housing.

This does not make the t-case manual, only the front axle.

For a manual t-case, swap the cases.

What Manual t-case can you swap in? or from what year of chev. Will you run into trouble codes or dash lights if you do this kind of swap? I think it would be cool to put in a doubler or an atlas.:D
