I was a Utah transplant - from Oklahoma by way of Wyoming. I loved it there. Wish I was still there about every day - check the note under my name to the left. When I say I'm homesick, I'm thinking of Utah - not Oklahoma. Moab feels like my home now and I miss it.

I really loved it in Moab in the 80's - quiet and the cost of living was cheap. It cost a lot more now but I have a lot of friends that were starving back then and are doing pretty well now..... so I won't wish another bust on them.

My job has moved me many times - like 9 I think. You know how to be happy in a new location? Submerge yourself in whatever is going on in the new place. Do what everybody else does there for fun. Before you know it your content and having fun.
Drag your old ways along and you will never be happy. For example I love wheeling in the desert - there's no desert here though so I don't care much for it here. It's only temporary though, my family situation will change in 5 years or so and I'll have a chance to go someplace I like more. ;)

Amen brotha. I counted last night with my wife, since we've been married and military we have lived in 5 states, 3 burroughs, 4 counties, 11 houses and 3 countries.

So Far we love Utah, there are a few things that an outsider woud like to see changed but its sure as hell not my place to make everyone conform to my likes. Am I LDS, no, do I have friends and nieghbors that are? yah, do they push on me, no and I dont get mad or push my bieliefs on them.

I would however like to see my Alaskan perminent fund dividend started here on the uranium sales, that would make me happy....

HOWEVER!!! The tax on food here is BULL. Alcohol laws are BULL. There should, IMHO, be definate seperation between state and church. Getting sh!tfaced and acting like a retard is a freedom givin right and everyone, regardless of beliefs should be able to get full point alcohol/beer at the mini mart and get fershickened.

Is there any other state that has to bring up the dominate state religion in EVERY conversation that you have with a native. It seems to be such a major concern that you find out a persons religion almost right off the bat in this state. I am not sure if this goes on anywhere else, but when I lived in Colorado, religion of an individual was either never known or cared about. It is amazing how much of an issue it is out here.

Yes, there are tons of meth labs in Grand Junction and in the Vail Valley. Sucks :(

I totally agree with that. Who cares what religion you are? I'm native (and of the 'dominant' religion) and I've NEVER asked what religion you are. I really don't want to know. I'll know if I like you pretty quick whatever religion you are (doesn't matter to me) based on how you interact with me. There's a lot of people that bug the h@ll out me that are of my religion. I even let my kids play with kids that aren't of my faith (I know I shouldn't  )

 it's funny because it's true

What I like better is when they don't bother to find out, they just start talking to you like you are one.

Was that the sarcasm smilie or were you being serious?

It's the sarcasm smile, sorta. Here's the deal. The religion teaches that we should fellowship ALL people, no matter what race, religion, etc. I totally agree with that. However, some members (mostly the vocal ones) tend to be a little extreme about the control factor. I've seen kids in my old neighborhood not have any friends except mine and another neighbors because they weren't members or not active ones. That's not doing ANYBODY any favors. Neighborhoods should be a community NOT divided by religion (or any other factors). (preaching to the chior, I'm sure)

edit: I guess I kinda did finish my thought. It's like anything else, the vocal minority makes a mess out of things for the silent majority. Most people I go to church with are good, honest people.

I'm not sure why that part of the religion isn't lived by more members as I believe it should be. That's one of the cooler things about the religion (or almost any I've studied). The current church president (Gordon B. Hinckley) has been saying that we should be more accepting of our neighbors and a bigger part of the community as a whole for his whole tenure (probably life?). To me, when the church president says something and you profess to believe in the church, that's kinda church policy and people should follow his example/advice. There are some kids I DON'T let my kids play with, but that has NOTHING to do with their religion (they might be LDS folk, for all I know). Those people need to get involved in their kids lives, because they are a serious pain in the ass.

Religion threads have a way of turning nasty. I hope this doesn't turn into something I'm not trying to turn it into (partly because I'll be a little unavailable this weekend--my dad's retiring this next week {32 years at USPS and to my knowledge, he's never shot someone that didn't deserve it :D} and we're celebrating for/with him so I'll be out of town, not able to tend a religion thread). I'm not trying to convert anyone or anything. I've got nothing to hide and enjoy my life. I think most (all?) of us on here like ourselves and what we are doing and if we are happy, that's the most important thing. I hope I'm sharing something interesting about the dominant religion that the membership seems to have trouble with and that's it.
