Hi,
I am biulding a 85 toyota with a 4.3 V6 and 4l60e tranny. the donor truck was 2wd. I have the toyota transfer case on the back of the 4l60e.

My question is: how will the PCM control the tranny shifting when I am in low range? will it work good? or will I need to put 4wd programming into the PCM. If I have to put 4wd programming in, what else as far as wiring wil I need to hook up?

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
IIRC, there is no 4x4 programming. Your tranny will shift based on the engine load and rpm.

it will go off the vehicle speed sensor in the cases,

you will need a inpulse sender for the vss, that matches the ecm for the 4l60e

plus there is a box that changed the vss signal from analog to digital for the ecm you will need.

this is all from my build i used a 94 awd astro van running gear and put a np241 on it. mine only has first and second gear when in 4 low due to the gear
reduction in the case and the ecm never sees enought speed to hit third. hell to hit second i have to wind it out bad or manually shift it.

if you need more info hit me up mine has been in and running now for year.

when you say rpm, do you meen engion rpm or tranny output rpm?

When you are driving in 1st gear in high (on your transfer case)on flat ground going 20mph you will have different engine load then if you were going 4.25mph in 1st gear in low(on a 4.7:1 transfer case). in these senarios you have the EXACT same motor, tranny and VSS RPM, but you will have different engine load(becouse there is less friction, arodinamics, ect) so you will have differnt shift pionts. I would think that GM would of thought of this?

I bought the adapters from Advanced Adapters, you will have to bay a 4l60e to 700r4 adapter, a 700r4 to toyota adapter, make sure you have the right VSS sensor, get and install the new output shaft in the tranny Install the new reluctor ring and then the transfer case bolts right up. If I were to do it over again, I would use a turbo 350 trans and a carbed 4.3 v-6.
