So after the maiden voyage of the 4runner after all the current mods, i got back and looked at my shock towers, and the passenger side one had broken off, it didn't surprise me, too long of shock+only two welds holding it on. I plan on gussetting it and putting a bolt through it, just didn't have the time before i had to drive it, but i took this oppurtunity to plate the engine mount, i'll do the same to the other side

I knew someone would say something about the crappy welds, it's a flux core 80amp mig, the reason it looks so crappy is i had to use a extension cord to weld where i was and it didn't give me enough juice, i welded today and it welds much better pulged directly into the wall, and i was welding with the tire on not enough room to get in there and see, but thats why i wasn't to bummed about redoing it

"your wife kinda look about her that maybe you didnt ask her befor making the purchase.......:-\" No my wife knew she is just thinks they won't fit, i told her i would make them fit hahaha

I'm trying, haven't had time to go get some more cutting discs, maybe i 'll try and just grind the welds off to get the shaft apart and then lengthen it, oh and yes it does sit higher than your cherokee i'm 95%sure but we will have to comepare when you come down again

Does anyone know what size of tube i need to lengthen a stock 1980 front drive shaft, or at least some more info on how to do it, i found some discussion on it on yotatech but no how to's, because it is different than most drive shafts i have seen

BlackDog

one small mod at a time
When I needed to stretch a rear, I was told point blank, can't stretch em, got to make new...

$150 ish later at 6 states, I had a blingy new Black driveshaft, made to my specs, which were too fricking long... DOH!

But perfect after I do the shackle flip in the ass.

dont wast your time grinding out the welds, take it to a drive line shop have them do it on a lathe , then when you get it back go buy some schedule 40 2.5" pipe and place the nubs in the each end of the new shaft and weld it up.
super cheap and super strong, and doesnt clank like a squar one. i did this for both front and rear, workes great and i ave beat them.

I have to agree with panos, i don't need to mush compression and the stock shaft has 5 inches of spline, and i'm set up pretty low with my axle 1inch farther back than most SAS so i think this will work, thanks for the tip panos, do they charge much to put it on the lathe? six states seems to be a little more expensive than they used to be, they wanted like 90 bucks for labor and then 40 or 50 for parts to lengthen the drive shaft, so maybe someone knows of a better driveline shop in Ogden that has treated them good

there is a automatic transmission shop on 1900w. kind of by Jims Burgers, go in the back of there and ask for Cloyd. He is one of the original Toyota guys in town and has always treated me right.
