I'm looking to swap in a 2002 5.3 LM7 into my 86 CJ7. Anyone done this that would like to offer up any pointers that they may learned.

Thanks,

What transmission and t-case will you be using?

Is your 5.3 drive by cable or wire?

I put a LM7 in my old TJ with a TH350, but it was a crawler. You'll want OD if it's going to see any road time, so 700R4 or 4L60E... the latter requiring an ECU.

Our old friend Wayne Hartwig does wiring harness work on GM GenIII engines, seems very knowledgeable and affordable. - http://www.diffsonly.com/store/index.php/tuning-and-harnesses-by-wayne-hartwig-m-36

Thanks Greg, I git interrupted before I could finish my post. I'll be running a 700R4 and the D 300. Jeep is too nice to do any "hardcore" wheeling, but it will see some trail use. That is great to hear that Wayne does some harness work, I wounder if he can flash also. Most 2002 were not drive by wire, so I'm hoping this one is not...picking it up in the morning.

So was it drive-by-wire?

I'd imagine you'll be running headers, shortys? Or are you going to stick with manifolds? I had a hard time getting the right headers for my TJ (linked suspension), but since you're working with a CJ it shouldn't be too hard.

Do you know about the parts needed to bolt a Gen III engine to an older transmission, like your 700R4? It's a simple kit, but makes it easy. Kurt may be able to get you a better price. - http://www.advanceadapters.com/prod...engine-to-chevy-th350700r200r4-flexplate-kit/

I will more than likely keep everything stock. Depending on what happens at the machine shop that is.... I have done a lifetime of research on these engine and swaps, and yes I did know about the adapter for the 700r, thanks. After I opened up the engine I was very disappointed in the carbon build up in the engine. After researching I have found that LS1 motors suck in the oil splash from the PVC. The solution is call a catch can. Personally I have never heard of such a thing but it looks like it works great. Once the swap starts to take shape I'll snap some pics, but don't be in too much of a hurry. :)

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Just courious as to why go with a 700r4? Why not run a 4l60e and let the ecu control it and forget about running a tv cable?Do you have to change the throttle linkage on the engine to get the proper cable pull? I think a lot of guys under estimate the importance of the tv cable and setting it up right. Not saying that's you, just thinking out loud a bit.

This motor is a drive by cable. It was not my original intention to put a 700r4 behind this 5.3. The 700r4 was purchased for my original 327 that I was going to build. When the opportunity came up for the 5.3, the 327 was sold.
