You'll want to upgrade your transmission if you are thinking of hitting those kinds of power numbers. I assume it's an automatic, the 5r110 doesn't like the kind of power it takes to push 400 to the wheels, inside might become outside pretty fast. They are rated for 1100lbft input post torque converter and I think the one you have is somewhere in the 1.4-1.6 range so you can kill that trans without much upgrading to the engine.A little update. Pulled the trailer a few more times without issues. Then headed to Oregon the P0478 came back. Cleared it and it made the return trip without a hiccup.
Pulling to Yost this past weekend it came back. The truck is also getting some power surges and it over boosting (30+ psi) when pulling hills. I'm going to try cleaning the EBP tube that runs from the manifold to the sensor and see what that does. I also need to clean the MAF as it used the EBP, MAP and MAF to determine boost and operate the VGT vanes. It's possible the MAF is dirty and skewing the numbers.
I know the turbo on this truck is probably not the one it went to Wasatch Diesel with and it definitely has some shaft play. I have been looking at a KC turbo's stage one and possibly upgrading to slightly larger injectors too. Power Driven Diesel in Cedar has some pretty good success getting the 6.0 with those upgrades and some tuning into the high 400hp range to the wheels. That is 6.7 power for less than the sales tax on a used 6.7.
The KC stage one is essentially a better spooling stock turbo with better internals. Not really adding more boost. However, I did put O-ringed heads in this motor when I rebuilt it, plus it got all brand new ford bottom end and completely new valve train. So it should hold way more hp than a stock motor. Is there an option to choose a more reliable or more responsive smaller turbo? I'd be worried about breaking something else if you add boost.
That's the choice I like. 😎
But your son will be sad if you didn't "ram" another 20psi down it's throat and turn the transmission into a glitter milkshake.
Stratton is referring to my kid who sheared 2 trans input shafts in a compound Cummins that pegs an 80 PSI boost gauge, he finally put a chromoly input shaft in on the third go.I thought the 5R110 was pretty solid?
Got the new turbo installed

I’ve had terrible luck with every Interstate battery I’ve owned.Went to hook up to the trailer to load the jeep for EJS, dead batteries AGAIN. These Costco interstates have gone down hill. These are 8/2020.
So two new super start premiums from Orielley's and we are back in business. Turns over so fast now🤣.
Pulled the jeep on my 16ft trailer with approximately 1k pounds of shit my wife packs every year. Got to Moab this afternoon with zero drama and 15% better fuel mileage than it's ever done. Didn't notice any difference in pulling other than it spools WAY faster and takes off from a stop much quicker than with the OEM turbo. Glad to have spent half the sales tax for a new truck to keeping this one going and the dreaded thread alive.
