My 1957 Renault Dauphine would beat a Porsche 911 for the first 500 feet with only 904cc engine. Stock was 845cc advertised as 850cc.

I can't imagine that Jeep isn't terrifying to drive that fast... Not saying I don't want to drive it, I'm just sayin'.:)

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Alright CJ7 owners, this begs the questions........

WHO HAS GONE THE FASTEST IN THEIR STOCK WHEELBASE CJ7?

I'm in at only about 70mph.....TOP THAT!

Not a CJ7 but a short wheelbase... I've had my FJ40 at ~100mph down Parley's Canyon (bryson can confirm). Perfect combination of road conditions, traffic, tail wind and guardian angel presence.

I would not repeat in this day and age.

I have had my cj7 up to 85 once... right now the top speed is only 80 mph.... but on a good downhill I could probably get it to 90.... but I'm not going to attempt it until the steering system is fixed...

I often cruised 70ish in my CJ7, but 4.88's, no overdrive, and 35's kind of limit what you can do. My LJ, 80 was common. In my JK, even 90 feels comfy. Did I ever tell ya how sweet JK's are?? :D

85 in my CJ7 but the Chev 350 helped, I have very stiff suspension and great steering. Conversely my CJ8 can go 90 and is comfy due to the wheelbase but the steering in it is more loose than the seven. Which makes I-15 a sketch. I am only comfortable in both at 75. Last time out to Five Mile I hit 85 in the CJ8 actually(downhill) stock 258 and running 2650rpm 35'' tires, Never felt unsafe.

I have found that like my last cj5 with a vette motor, it's the strength to weight ratio that helps. Larger tires help in traction too. I miss that Jeep.

I have had my 86 CJ7 up to 70-75 and it hold with no problems. The Jeep has been completely rebuilt though....

I knew a guy who had an FJ40 with a built 540 with nitrous that he used as a mud drags truck. He ran cut boggers and it would do a wheelie off the starting line if he got into it too hard and got more traction than expected.
