Ok, well i have been thinking about a way to add bumpstops to my truggy ever sence i built it and tested it, Im running 3- 3/12 inches of up-travel and about 200 lbs. And when i hit a bump its totally jaring and my shocks hate me. well my question is does anyone have any idea on what i could do to fix this? Thanks

I don't see any good way to do it without adding a lot of tube to your frame... But, i think it needs to be done.

Do you have a side profile pic? best with the tire off, but tire-on would suffice.

Getting rid of the shag doors would definitely do the trick.:p

Don't listen to him:D

Seriously though, It looks like you could raise your upper shock mounts really easily and gain a couple inches of uptravel, and that would help with your bottoming out situation. Bumpstops would be a good idea too, with your tubework it would be kinda hard to mount them cleanly without hangin way out in the middle of nowhere. have you thought about running bumpstops from the frame to the lower links? not the most effective way to mount them, but still better than nothing and they would be tucked out of the way.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
I guess I don't understand. It jars you because the shocks bottom out or because they are way to stiff?

If the shocks bottom out, you can do one of two things: sell me your two shocks and get ones that are two inches longer (looks like they would fit just right on your rig), or fill them with more nitrogen.
If the shock are two stiff, you can do one of two things: sell me your two shocks and get ones that are two inches longer so you can run them softer, let some nitrogen out of them.

it jars beacuse it bottoms out.

Kyle bumps to the lower links.... thats not a bad idea its either i do that or i move my shock mounts up a few inches and add a little more air to my shocks. hmm

Sounds like you could try more oil if they are too soft and bottoms out too easy.

I wouldnt add more N2. IMO if youre going to run a rig with air shocks, you need to run them with little up travel to be successful.

Bumpstops to the links could work? Dont forget about the upper links too if they are closer and require less tube.

Could switch out to a shorter coilover.

Adding more oil will stiffen them up a bit. I don't think that you have to run air shocks with minimum up travel to be a good setup. I run my 2.5's with 6 inches of up travel and have no problems. It looks like you have 2.0's. For the weight your running, you will have to run 200 psi plus to get the height you need out of them. With the 2.0's I am running 125 psi on a heavier rig so I get a lot less rebound and undesirable aspects. I would start with adding some more oil and go from there if your happy with the travel and setup you have

I was thinking that the fluid gave you the ride height and the gas gave you your soft or firm ride. If you were happy with the height, add some gas.

The more oil the higher your spring rate / curve. It gets kind of confusing if you try to do the numbers so trial and error is the way to go.

Add more oil. If your shocks are 16" fox, then the max oil should be about 425ml. I maxed my fronts shocks out on oil because it's much heavier. You might be happy with about 375ml of oil back there. If it starts getting too stiff, remove oil and do bumpstops. Making your airshock not bottom out means more oil which also means stiffer ride.

ok im back with some really good results,

I Changed the oil in both shocks to the 15wt and went up 50cc's from stock so im at 400 cc's and 140 lbs and my same 3'' up travel i pulled it out of the garage and went to turn around in the street and... a ton less body lean then i pulled onto the the rock in my front yard and this rock before would bottom out my shocks and now ive got a good 1'' - 1 1/2'' before the shock bottoms so now i just need to test it out.

Nice.

Less body roll because you have to use less N2.

Let us know how it goes.
