I don't care if there is global warming or not, I can't stand this shitty smog in the cities...
Sucks spending an excellent clear weekend in Price only to come back to brown air.
True . . . but, the Salt Lake Valley, Cache Valley, Provo Valley, etc . . . have always been smoggy. The Indians used to refer to them as the "smoky" valleys.
Whenever there is a low pressure system overhead, the denser air (air with contaminates/particles in it) is pushed to the ground. When there are no mountains around, the particles in the air disperse, and you don't really see the smog. But, when you are surrounded by mountains, the particles can't evenly disperse and are forced to the lowest point: the valleys.
So, there is no way you will forever be rid of the inversions . . . but that doesn't create an excuse to start billowing black smoke for the hell of it.
The biggest problem that cleaning the air has, though, is the economy.
The only reason Geneva Steel went out of business was the EPA's regulations. While I understand the desire to clean the air up, it's also hard for me to support draconian measures to do so, because of the effect these measures have on people, and their employment.
Back on topic of Algore and his propaganda-tary.
This is from the NY Times today:

I am SHOCKED that the NY Times would do a hit piece on Algore . . . you know that for this to happen there are some SERIOUS inaccuracies in his little flick.
