And so it begins...

Insanity. Absolute insanity. No logic to 99% of that. No research, no debate, nothing. One less reason to go to New York, and they were getting thin anyway.

Next we get to see what that moron Biden comes up with.

It's New York, what did you expect. It's already tough enough to just own a gun there as it is. Seven bullets in a magazine is ridiculous, unless you are talking sub-compact, most guns hold more than that and if the national ban is 10 bullets, then mfgs still won't be making 7 round mags.

Correct me if i am wrong here...... As i understand it the current NY law allows AR-15's because they allow 2 features (detachable magazine + handgrip) This would in effect ban AR's or similar rifles from NY.

If AR's are banned, what is left to register as an "assault weapon" ?? Auto-loading rifles??

There is no grandfather clause here. If it holds more than 7 it is outlawed. Minus the pocket-pistols this means that nearly every magazine ever sold would have to be sold from the state and replaced with a new aftermarket magazine. I have a hard time thinking of any handgun magazine that is 7 or less. There is not a magazine made for a Rugar 10/22, or really any handgun that you would be able to keep.

It sounds like you will have to have a "gun license" similar to a drivers license to own a handgun or auto loading rifle.

This makes my head hurt.

How exactly are these suggestions going to stop crime?

The word "infringed" comes to mind

Can out of state citizens like ourselves pressure out of state senate like NY to not pass a bill? Just seems like states need to band together rather than let one by one be oppressed.

it sounds like you could have a higher capacity mag, but you can't have more than 7 rounds in it. This is getting downright scary.

I think there there is going to be some resistance to this. But if there is not, then looks like you might be able to pick up some cheap magazines out of New York!

Sure! Start a petition, write letters, join the NRA. Lots of ways. Look at SUWA, they influence the Utah legislator and 90% of their members have never set foot in Utah.

Damn right it is.

Restrict ammunition magazines to seven bullets, from the current national standard of 10. Current owners of higher-capacity magazines would have a year to sell them out of state. Someone caught with eight or more bullets in a magazine could face a misdemeanor charge.

It sounds to me like you would have 1 year to sell what you have, but for that year you could load your 10 rounder with 7. They are changing the standard from 10 to 7

There is no longer a national standard of 10, though. That ended in 2004 with the end of the Brady Bill. This whole bill is wrought with errors in logic. The biggest, as we all know, is that criminals, real criminals, don't follow laws. So all this does is make ordinary, law abiding New Yorkers criminals. This is tragic and disgusting. These lawmakers should be ashamed of themselves and Andrew Cuomo should be in jail.

The real lunacy and what drives me crazy about this discussion is I believe this would have zero affect on mass murders and crazy violence. I get that it is politics, but it would be an exercise in futility and a huge waste of time and money that could be spent actually accomplishing something. I can just see one maniac talking to his buddy: "You better get rid of that 10 round magazine before you slaughter all those people or you could face a misdemeanor..."

This hole thing pisses me off. I was watching the news and some mayor said "assault rifles have only one purpose, to kill as many people as possible" there not for sport or target practice or self defense, only killing people!!!???

What a dumb a#%

none of these people have ever fired or got familiar with fire arms so there scared to death of them and think any one with a gun is a murdering maniac.
My wife was scared of guns when we first met and now she wants her consealed permit and is fine.

A threat to liberty in one part of our country is a threat to liberty everywhere.
I'm hoping to see some large lawsuits against the state of NY.

There will be, Shane, on Constitutional grounds, easy to see those coming and rightly so. "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" means exactly that, and there is no way this will go unchallenged.

At least some of the NY Senators have their heads on straight:
