Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

I shuttled with friends. I parked one vehicle at the bottom of mill creek, and another at the top of guardsman. The ride up to guardsman wouldn't be horrid if it weren't pave and full of speeding cars.

I dunno, my next couple days are kinda busy. Whenever we go it probably ought to be something alpine, Corner Canyon and Eagle Mountain are ovens right now.

I've really been wanting to ride Wasatch Crest, but Puke Hill kinda scares me. I'd hate to get to the top with no energy left to enjoy the ride down.
I am supposed to ride Crest with a customer next week. Puke hill sucks, but it is short enough, that you can rest at the top to regain energy for the remainder of the ride. I walked 3/4 of it the only other time I have ridden Crest.

I am swamped until after next weekend, and I am trying to get motivated to sell my hardtail and get a full squish. Not sure I will be ready until after the 22nd anyway. Let's keep in touch, and if I free up, I will post or text you.

Not a bad price. I saw a Marin pine mtn plus hardtail for $1050 at a shop yesterday. No dropper, but it had a rockshox fork.

We just picked up a norco torrent 2 fs (full suspension plus bike) for my father in law this weekend. Super cool bike for only $2500.

I'll probably end up with a Timberjack for my next bike, but that Marin and the Jamis Dragonslayer are on my shortlist too and that's a couple hundred off. What size was the one you saw, do you remember?

The Marins run extremely big. I'll bet you'd still be an XL, but it's a BIG XL. The guy at the shop was about your size/stature, and he rides an XL and said it's almost too big for him. They had a medium and large in stock, but I wonder if they had an XL in the back.

Kev, I wonder if you'd like a 29+ bike. Have you ridden a stache yet?

If you're looking into a Jamis, I can get ahold of Syd and Macky and see if they have a discount code for any Jamis bikes. You never know. The dragonslayer looks awesome.

I love steel hardtails, but for a plus bike, i think aluminum makes a lot more sense. Not prone to rust, no need for the forgiving ride of a steel frame since the tires make it forgiving, and aluminum is way lighter and usually cheaper. That being said, if you want steel, the dragonslayer (68* HTA) looks awesome. The Pine MTN (69* HTA) would be a deal breaker with the 69* HTA for me. The san quentin is more my style/flavor, but if you like a steep HTA, the pine mtn might be worth looking at.

So, all that being said, my unsolicited vote is for the timberjack. What a great bike for the price, and the geo isn't so aggressive that it would be miserable when bikepacking. Salsa said it can be run with an angleset too, so if the HTA isn't quite where you want it, you can change it, provided you don't go with a bigger fork (the engineers didn't like the idea of a 66* HTA with a 140 fork on there).

I'll be back in Utah for a month starting July 18. I plan on riding almost every weeknight, and definitely every Saturday. I'd love to link up with you guys for some rides.

I bounced one around a parking lot a little bit. I think I liked it. I'm pretty sure I'd love it or Krampus 29+ setup for random XC and bikepacking stuff, but it seems like they're all priced pretty high for their buildout. The 27+ market is so much more saturated, seems like you get a lot better component for your money. For the same price as a Stache 5 with Deore drivetrain and Tektro brakes or a Krampus with NX, I could buy a Timberjack with SLX drivetrain and Shimano brakes, and with the Alternator dropout I could still stuff a 29+ in there if I wanted more (same with the Jamis, and that's such a sexy bike).

I didn't know Syd and Macky were Jamis people, I must not have been paying attention. Once it comes time I'll have to buy you and Tessa a nice dinner and ask you to put in a word for me. :D

No dinner required. That would defeat the purpose of a bike discount anyway. :)

I do love how the 27.5+ market is growing. It's such a fun tire size. I think I'd LOVE 26+ if I tried it, but the market will never get there. No doubt, the timberjack is the best deal right now. SO much bike for so little cost. I'm glad to see plus bikes putting biking back into the price range of most new riders.

My 7 year old daughter has definitely outgrown her bike. Im thinking about going with spawn cycles again, specifically the Katori. It’s more of a dirt jumper, because she’s a total hooligan and thinks she’s a stunt double. Any other bikes I should look into? I know the market for good kid bikes is pretty slim.
