Anyone into 3D printing?

Got a great deal on a Creality printer for Black Friday. Wife and I have been printing stuff nearly non-stop. I'm interested in what is the best software to make my own models from scratch - I know there are some options, but what do you recommend?

I use fusion 360 and it's garbage. But it's the garbage I currently use.

I use Fusion 360 and I don't mind it. There probably is something better out there but every software is going to have a learning curve to it.
I just don't like that they cheaply used web technologies to build a non-native CAD application. I despise the always online crap. Other than that it does work well.

When I have the patience to sit down and play with 3D it’s almost always fusion. Is there a more “professional” CAD that can be had for free? I have a bootleg version of Creo that I really need to learn.
For me it’s like learning languages. Right now I can ask where the bathroom is in serval languages but that’s about it. For 2D I have another program that I’ve been using for 20 years. I’m pretty quick on it.
I’d like to get a printer and force my 13yo son to learn Creo. Kind of like making a kid play the piano.
How will AI effect CAD design?

Solidworks ($$$$) can be had, a year at a time, for about $30 if you qualify for their student discount. You can get a cloud based version or a traditional local install.

I just searched their student requirments and saw this, it looks like SolidWorks offers a CAD for makers now? It's currently on sale for $24 per year, normally $48.

I'm not and engineer or affiliated in anyway with SW, I just learned it in college while working for a fabrication and engineering shop in Logan. Here's their student program though, veterans and so I believe a few other professions can get student pricing as well, on the student version.

That’s awesome! I used to love building in solid works, but haven't played with it in decades due to high cost.

Thanks for sharing this. I just found out my son’s elective class this semester is design and 3d printing. Maybe we’ll grab the student version and learn together.
