You might just get it.

I've been looking at moving back out west for... well about 11 years. School, 5 years in the military, 3 years at my current company. All on the east coast. The other day I get a phone call from our west coast director asking if I would be interested in moving to San Diego. I said yes. We will see what my current director says.

After thinking about it I am having some second thoughts. I've started a life for myself. I have a good group of friends. Besides that having to pack all the crap I have collected and move it 3000 miles. I am tired of starting over.

Just need an outlet to vent. I think in the end I will be happier out west. The process of getting there less than enthuses me.

San Diego is awesome, I'm sure it will be hard to leave behind what you've carefully built over the last several years.... but, you'll be able to take day trips down to Baja... can't do that in NY! And right now is a good time to buy a place in SoCal.

Thanks. It's all speculation at this point but if it happens it will happen fast. Plus I leave for Korea at the end of April for 2-3 months. :eek:

We have at least 8 current power generation sites in the greater San Diego area. Sheridan Hotel East and West, Sunny College, Camp Pendleton, San Diego State, Point Loma, University Med Centers, City of San Diego, Temecula, and several others. With 6 more in the process of contract finalization.

I don't know the area at all. And we will see where they want me. :confused:

You should look into Temecula, it's not really close to the coast but you can get away from the crowds (as much a is possible in SoCal) in the right areas.

We lived in Hemet, about 45 min away from Temecula. Living in Southern California isn't easy, it was a rough change for me and I didn't adjust well. I was there for 9 month before I escaped am glad that we got out when we did. Too many people, high cost of living and way, WAY too much traffic. But if you can make it work for you, I'm sure it will be a good change.

I do miss having Baja so close, wish I would have made more trips down there while we lived in Hemet.

^ I hear ya there, but I would choose elsewhere to reside. I'm just not a fan of California. But, ya, the weather you've had blows for sure.

agreed, I grew up near Temecula. It is a nice area, and you are close to other big citys. The city has really nice weather as well. Houses are really cheap right now though! Good luck.

You obviously have never lived in San Diego... There are a number of cities located in San Diego similar to what some would call Salt Lake City (ie. Sandy, West Valley, Taylorsville, Murray) only on a much grander scale. I love Southern California, for the weather. It depends on the person whether you like the people there or not. As Greg mentioned, Temecula would be a great area to look into. It is about an hour away from the coast and has some nice suburbs a little hot in the peak of the summer (can get up in the triple digits) One thing you will learn quickly is that the temperature rises quickly as you get away from the coast. I also really like Poway, and parts of northern San Diego County like Escondido. I guess it really depends on where your employer wants you.

The company I work for builds, installs and maintains hydrogen fuel cell power plants. They are used to supplement a sites energy needs and are usually sized according to the particular base load requirements.

I grew up in the very southeast corner of Arizona. Right on the boarder of Old Mexico and New Mexico. California is not exactly ideal but I think it will be a leap in the right direction.

Gotcha. We are selling power to California, so I guess you will still receive it.

I work for a bio gas company. We catch Pig farts and use them to power large generators:D

It sounds like Cali will be a good move for you, good luck.

The West Coast Director and Department Head think the move would be good for everyone involved. BUT it comes with a big BUT... We are planning on shutting down 3 plants on the east coast. One is already decommissioned. One is waiting for the contract to expire at the end of May and one we are trying to buy out the contract on. All three are some of the original plant designs and maintenance cost are outrageous. If we get the third bought out they could justify an over manning on the east coast and they are all ready under manned on the west and looking to hire. If every thing falls into place I could be in Sam Diego buy late summer or early fall. The other big BUT comes with my current manager/East Coast Director. She is technically under the Department head and lateral to the West Coast Director but if she wants to be an pain the neck should could possibly keep me back east. I hope she sees it the way the rest of us do and it's best for the company overall to let me move.

And the saga continues...

I really like San Diego, FWIW. We go there about once a year... I think it's a nice city with some neat stuff in it, the beaches are decent, and you can bail up to the hills pretty easily...
