I'm looking forward to running that thing in the dunes & snow... I'd like to add a 100 HP shot of NOS down the road. :greg:

Awesome!
I'd like to be in on that wheelin trip (If I ever finish my behemoth).

My brother recently moved to Grand Junction, so we'll have the buggy down in your neck of the woods once in a while. Let me know if you're up for a run. I just have to finish my blasted project first.... which could be 2025.... :ugh:

Greg, can a 100hp shot be safely added to a gen III that has already undergone an ECM tune? Please share. :)
Sorry, I'm a nos newbie.

That's strange, I called Duane's last week and they said they didn't have a 5.3. I also called Trans West on Friday they said they didn't have one either.

Huh, I suppose their parts locater hasn't been updated yet. You want me to look around my area for a 5.3?

You're brother is a smart man, :D What brought him to GJ? I'll be up for a run whenever you are, just let me know. Seriously, there's some fun stuff just outside of Grand Junction. And Montrose isn't far... :greg:

Most stock V8's that are in good running shape should be good for up to a 150 HP shot of NOS. Any more than that & you really need a motor built for it. Obviously you have to be smart about using the NOS, but there's nitrous kits out there for these motors that make it simple. Some of the things you need to know about nitrous is that you should be above 2500 RPM and at full throttle when you hit it, otherwise you could cause engine damage.

I bet you are using unimog axles again huh :D.

Yeah, Mogs and me, no, never again. I think they'd be okay without being narrowed, but I'll never play in that park again.

Naw, I know there's one at All Truck and I'll do some more calling tomorrow. Thanks for that locater web sight.

What, a 4BT? Cool motors, but they're a far cry from being a buggy motor, IMO.

Already bought a 5.3 Chev Gen III motor. Don't really think a diesel is a good motor for a buggy. Well, I mean a good motor for my buggy. Too heavy, to long to spool up, no high rpms. This buggy will see some sand and snow, along with rock.

Maybe some of the smaller Euro diesels would work for a buggy, but....

Cummins + buggy= HEAVY PIG Unsuitable for the common kind of buggy (lightweight, high-revving). Buggies big enough to really use diesel power aren't really buggies, and usually feature Rockwells and huge tires. And dont' fit on a lot of trails. :D :D

I'd love to build a small bash-buggy with a Mechanical VW TDI modded for 250 ft/lbs, Toy 5 speed tranny, Toyota reduction box & Dana 300 and a pair of Toy axles. :greg: 4 Links, Air shocks & 37-38's ought to get the job done!

But yeah... the 4BT is a great motor, but buggy motors need to be able to spin tires, have quick throttle response & not weigh 800 pounds.

that reminds me of the guy that had a cummins in his buggy during the early years of UROC. He would bust u-joints left and right, hardly made it up anything because he weighed so much, and stunk up the obstacles with diesel fumes

I was jonesin' for a 2.8 diesel in the new JK but the more I think about having that on the trail, the less I want one. I'd love it for driving to and from the trails, but maybe not on the trail. Never driven a buggy, but I have to agree, I'd think you'd want more throttle response than a diesel will offer.

I got mine from All Truck. I asked for the complete harness, ecm, throttle pedal (drive by wire), and the controller for it. Oh, and the flex plate. You pay extra for the stuff but you have to have it.

I remember that Jeep. It was painful to watch.
