Billings/Road 21/Moab

Goat, you tearing down or going? Shawn, how are things looking for you?

Lineforeman99, how is your schedule? Would you be available Friday and Saturday? How much time does Cactus and Die Tryin take?

Greg, is it too much to plan on billings/21 same day? Maybe we do 21 on the way out and hit billings on sunday?

Either trails have the potential to take a long time, 21 Road is much longer while Billings is shorter, yet more technical. I think saving Billings as the leaving day trail is best, we've done that in the past & it works quite well.

with 21 you can jump off just about anytime though if you have some breakage, with billings... not so lucky, clogs up the trail. not saying it can't be done, just depends on who shows up and the rig configuration :)

That sounds good. I like it! Do we have any for sure dates yet?

Greg, can you suggest some cheap lodging in the area? Would it make sense to stay in a hotel in Fruita the whole time and drive to/from Montrose?

Here's my current thinking:

Friday 10/12 - noon - Road 21
Saturday 10/13 - Montrose
Sunday 10/14 Billings

Open for suggestions

Chad, I got your message and here is what is going on. I have been called to work a spiritual weekend that weekend. It is called the Walk to Emmaus. I have been involved with this for several years. I am not sure yet if it is going to happen because there may not be enough men to make it worth the four day event. There are a certain amount of expenses that need to be covered. I should know for sure by the 22nd of Sept. or thereabouts. I definitely will be available on Fri, Sat, and Sun if this event doesn't happen. My priority is to serve that weekend because that is what God is calling me to do. I hope that is enough notice for you all. I can get Doug, the guy with the toyota cruiser, to show you guys all the trails if he will be around. I will be available before that weekend or after for sure though. Please bear with me if you can. I really want to wheel with you all again.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for the call Chad

Thanks and God Bless Butch

What is the point of hauling our junk to Montrose for one day? I would rather just stay in the Junction area and save Montrose for another weekend or vice versa. We know how to get to Die Trying, Calamity, Cactus, Topless, and I think Scratch and Dent. So it's not a problem if we don't have a "Tour Guide". What if you Utah guys did Moab on Friday and then we did Colorado on Saturday and Sunday? I am open to either Montrose or Junction, I just think it's counter productive to try and do both. Die Trying, in my opinion, is what Montrose is about and that will take the better part of a day if all goes well and all the rigs are built enough.

you guys know best ... with the possibility of the turkey crawl in montrose .. I have no problem with doing the junction saturday and sunday. I also have no problem doing montrose both days.

I really want Greg and you two to be there, so you guys call it, I'll follow suite.

I'm going to agree with Tara, Montrose one weekend, Grand Junction the other. There's plenty to fill a long weekend in Montrose, and if you have nothing but time, you can spend a full day on 21 Road. I'd sat Grand Junction in Oct, then Montrose in Nov.

There's a few hotels in Fruita, but I don't know prices. If you stay in Fruita, it would be easier to have a BBQ or get together for dinner.

Yes, I do think that is a grand plan. From what I've seen of Montrose, that ugliness is better suited to a 3 day weekend and I, for one, really want to see everything there this go around. So, let's instate Montrose as this year's Turkey Crawl! Wahoo! :tara:

As far as hotels go, I know there is a Super 8 that I think is pretty decent and there is also a Comfort Inn at $89 a night which is most likely where we will end up.

Agreed, either or, not both. If I don't go to Pomona I think I can make the October trip. Only problem with Montrose in November is those trails are a beotch with rain and snow on them. Fun, but hard.

I'll be at the Turkey crawl in Montrose and I'm trying to swing 21 & Billings... if you guy's figure out what the h................. yer doing...

I haven't heard anything about a Turkey Crawl in Montrose. Does anyone know who puts it on? I will definitely be here for it though. Sounds like the Oct. trip is off for now. If I am free that weekend I will join you all in GJ. If anyone decides to come to Montrose before turkey day let me know.

Thanks Butch

It's billings/21 road all the way. I believe I will stay 3 nights in Fruita ... Friday, Sat, and Sun ... head home on Monday.
