anyone ever make their own body bushings for a 1" body lift before? If so, what did you use?

Thanks,

You have probably heard of it before but if I remember right, My dad used hocky pucks on his FJ40 back when he owned it. It worked real well, never had any problems with it.

Ya, I have heard of that. I'm looking for a metal spacer, something that I can make and that won't cost much if anything ;)

I haven't done it myself, because I hate body lifts heheh but I once helped make some out of some big hunk of aluminum... surplus stuff from my pal's work, big, like 3" aluminum bar. Just cut the thickness and drilled holes.

So far they have not split.

Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT a big fan of body lifts. But, I have to have 1" of lift to make the power steering work out on my new project.

Ive used hocky pucks myself and the plastic boat rollers... Both worked well.
Aluminum stock is pritty spendy as of right now and steel seems like it would cause some pritty nasty vibrations unless used with a rubber bushing as well...

1" x 3" square tubing.

Run it the length of the body,
front body mount to rear body mount on the side and across (paralell with the axles) for the back mounts
They should be pretty close to a straight line, with 3"
1 per side.
reuse body mounts,

I have done this on a couple of cjs,
Works great, gives you the lift and reinforces the tub.

I am not sure this will work on a Crusier or a comando.

good luck.

yeah, straight pucks will be harsh. My friend and I used about 2" Al pucks and the stock bushings on an M715, so the front end would steer w/Rockwells and 48's heheh

I have used rubber rollers for boat trailers. They are about 2.5-3" in diamiter with a 1/2" hole. Even has a poly sleeve in it already....Go to any of the boat supply stores they come in about 12" long pieces, cut as needed....

I can't believe no one has suggested Delrin. Basically it's an indestructible hard plastic. You can get it in solid round rod of various diameters. Cuts just like wood on any miter saw, and easy to drill for your bolts. Pretty cheap too. I got mine at Commercial Plastics, but I think they are gone now; try Regional Supply or try the YP under "plastics suppliers". I think I paid under $20 for enough to do 12 1" spacers. It comes in rainbow colors just for Shawn, too....:)

Delrin is far from indestructable. It will crack and chip due to the hardness. Also in cold weather you might have some issues. Just my two cents.

I do agree that aluminum without any rubber is not the best way either.

FYI you can get delrin at Laird plastics, it is close to where FTM used to be. Or from Professional plastics in layton, if you are north.

A plastic you might try is UHMW, it's what Rubicon Express uses for all its bumpstops and t-case lowering spacers. It will give a little and is easier to cut on a saw.
