Broke down in Moab

I went out and did Hells Revenge today and my Power Wagon broke down. I think it is something electric. It turns over just fine but sounds like it's not getting gas. I scraped some wires earlier but got them fixed. It ran for an hour or two after that. When the wires got scraped it wouldn't start for a while but finally did after disconnecting the battery. There is a red lightning bolt showing on the dash if that helps.

I need to either fix it or somehow get it out. I'm thinking towing it out would be very difficult without power steering or power brakes. It is next to the tip over obstacle.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Any help would be too.

I'm starting at the Silver Sage

I googled the lightning bolt light and several dodge threads said it has to do with the drive-by-wire throttle system.

Copies and pasted this;

It has to do with the Electronic Throttle Control. ( as per the owners manual)

12. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Light 5.7L
Engines Only
This light informs you of a problem with the
Electronic Throttle Control system. If a problem
is detected the light will come on while the
engine is running. If the light remains lit with
the engine running your vehicle will usually be drivable,
however, see your dealer for service as soon as possible.
If the light is flashing when the engine is running,
immediate service is required and you may experience
reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine
stall and your vehicle may require towing. The light will
come on when the ignition is first turned on and remain
on briefly as a bulb check. If the light does not come on
during starting, have the system checked by an authorized
dealer.

Dang Medsker, if my jeep wasn't in the shop I'd be there to help tow ya out. If your at the tip over challenge then your almost out. Im sure towing would would be a pain in the arse but not to bad from where your at.

Hopefully you get some good response from here. I've helped you pull a truck from Butterfield Canyon before, the favor for sure should be returned.

Thanks for the ideas and support.

My daughter and I spent hours googling everything last night and both came to the conclusion that it's the electronic throttle control. One guy said you can reset the system by turning the key to run and pushing the pedal and releasing it within two seconds. He also said the pedal assembly is really easy to remove.

The plan is to rent a jeep and drive in this morning. We hope and pray it will start, then we will drive it out. If it doesn't start we'll take the pedal assembly out, monkey around with it, put it back in, and see it it starts. If it doesn't start we'll pull it back out and drive out. Then on Monday we'll start calling dealers and see if we can find the part. I thought I would hit up the wrecking yards also. Apparently it is a common problem on all the Dodges, Jeeps, and Rams. Thankfully it looks like all the pedal assemblies are the same across the board. It is such a common problem that most dealers keep them in stock. If I can find one then we'll head back in and hope it starts and drives out, if not we will pull the truck out and see what we can do once it is in town. Of course my truck has 37,000 miles on it so it is out of warranty. It always seems to be like that.

If anyone knows of any wrecking yards around or where the closest dealer is, it would be appreciated if you could post up here, since I don't know the area very well.

I will of course update this thread as the day progresses.

One more question. When we came out from tip over challenge yesterday the road went over some pretty hairy stuff as you drop down onto the sandy road. This route was new to me. Last time I was here, after tip over challenge, it seems like it was just a bumpy dirt road. That road is fenced off now. Is there an easier way out than the new road? The New road looks like it would be pretty tough to go down with my 37's and no power steering and brakes. If there isn't an easier route I think we can do it, but would rather not have to.

I think I get cell reception up there so will update and look at this thread.

Keep me in your prayers and cross your fingers (figuratively not literally).

Is it actually fenced off, or just has a chain across it? I remember somebody saying something about a landowner putting that chain up by mistake during Jeep Safari, but I can't find the thread now.

I found this while searching the froum. Its what i tried.

"The code said you need to change the sensor? Try this.

Disconnect batterys for 20 min. Reconnect. Turn the key on but do not start, slowly mash down on the accelerator till it hits the floor then slowly let up, turn key off. Crank and drive and see if there is a difference. This will reset the APPS."

I just got back from autozone and they told me that the APPS is only available through the dealer. I called them and it runs $265

You can "re-flash" Chrysler vehicles by holding the positive battery cable on the negative post for 30 seconds. This will set the computer to relearn all of the parameters. When I was putting superchargers in jks, I did this all the time.
Worth a shot at this point.

So I rented a jeep from farabees. Jer, the guy who rented it to us, was very helpful and offered to help. I told him we would just try a few things and then grab the pedal and come back out. We got to the truck and started playing around and nothing worked. We just about have up when Jer comes driving over the ridge. We then tried some suggestions from him and finally got it started with the gas pedal unhooked. So I idled the rest of the way out. It is now parked at the Chevron. Jer is ordering the part from SLC tomorrow and should get it Tuesday morning. Hopefully that is all that is wrong with it. I'll rent a car tomorrow to drive my daughter up to Ogden and then drive back. Then Tuesday I can drive straight home to California.

Thanks again to everyone.
And especially thanks for all the info

It was really slow. I was impressed with some of the steep stuff that it walked right up.

I do love it when I have an adventure so I've got a great story to tell :) That's why we do what we do isn't it?

If there are any other problems I'll let you know.

Thanks again
