I bought some corbeau seats, so I could finally get some placement on where every pillar should go. Here's some pics

Where'd you get the Corbeaus? I think that's what I'm going to sit on when the time comes.

I take it you're building a 4 seater? Very cool... it's nice to have the room, IMO. What's with the most-rearward hoop? Looks... interesting. :hickey: I'm sure there's plenty more tube work to come & I might not be seeing something you see. But I had to ask. :)

Just a different way to do it, nothing super critical, tired of seeing the same ole way, plus it made it easier on me being a novice at the bending thing. I tried 2-3 times to make the rear basket all one piece but got tired of fawking up and costing $$$. So the rear hoop does the same thing by making it easier for me. Plus it will be skinned anyway, so you won't really see it.

I got the corbeaus through Bryson at teraflex plus. Then I just picked them up at the warehouse in bluffdale. You have to buy them through somebody might as well be a :bryson:

What you're looking for is an L33 5.3 -> trust me! 9.9:1 compression 310hp 335lb'tq balanced up to 7700rpm from the factory and very common in 2002 and 2003 chevy 1/2 tons water pump to flywheel they're ~330 lbs. It was the test motor for the LS6(GTO) motor before it came out - all aluminum block with iron sleeves and aluminum heads. The only bad thing I've found so far is it has really bad piston slap when it's cold (which is normal for the 5.3 but made worse by the shape of the piston in the L33)

the piston slap normally occurs in the newer chev motors because you are not running a high enuff octane gas

This isn't knock or pinging as it's called, it is the loose fitting piston hitting the side of the engine bore sleeve. The piston slaps back and forth until the material warms up enough that the piston grows and fills the bore a little tighter.
My 97 1500 350 c.i. truck had a terrible slap, and the dealer explained to me that it wasn't right, but it was "normal" for this engine and they would do nothing about it.
Don't take this as an attack, but what does octane have to do with it? Maybe you know something that I don't, but for me it didn't matter what gas (octane or brand) I ran it sounded the same.
I ran that engine hard to see if it was going to crap out on me and it never did, so I quit worrying about it.
The 5.3 is a good engine, never heard a bad thing about it. Lite, and gets good mileage!
Kiel, do you plan to run with a spare? (tire)

I agree.. What does octane have to do with it?

I think the reason they do that is for heat, wear and power - less friction on the cylinder walls from the piston being inside it.

Better. I was wondering if you had left the back of the Jeep frame stock. Have you thought about bringing the frame up a bit in the back? Are you going to do leaf springs?

I'm gonna hack it off about 6 inches from the back. Then just weld in some 2x4 box to cap it off. Plan is tri. 4 link

as some of u know i work at checker and i had a costomer ask me y their newer chev was pinging cause it was brand new, so we called the dealer and they told us that they needed to run a higher octane gas

Yeah, pinging... Not piston slap. Piston slap is a noise that never goes away, while it's doing it. The ping is there only in load situations. A bad rod bearings is there when you load then quickly unload the engine.

Newer cars run at a higher temperature, which requires a higher octane of fuel. Most cars have a sensor at the crankshaft that monitors it for a ping (predetonation), and then modifies the timing to correct for it. Sometimes these don't work all that well when it's a heat/octane issue.

The piston slap these new* engine have sounds a lot like a bad rod bearing. You can really hear it best when the engine is at idle. Pinging (knocking) is worse for the engine than "the slaps" because it can blow a hole in the piston if it becomes severve enough. Piston slap just makes your junk sound like it's junk.
Maybe the reason we hear it more on these new* motors is because they are making them out of aluminum and it doesn't deaden the sound like a heavy steel block does/would. Just a thought...
Oh yeah, and it's lookin good there buddy! But you didn't answer me about the spare tire thing...

Not in the buggy I don't think, keeping it at the truck/trailer. I'm hoping to run some 40 creepy's stickies, SO I won't need a spare;)

I can't believe you took my advice and started a four seater buggy. Looks great. just pace your self so you don't burn out. More bad advice?!!
