Building a cage; follow BITD guidelines?

It's time to build a cage for my Blazer, but I've been looking at the BITD rule book and according to the weight of my vehicle, I need to use 2" .120 wall DOM tubing for my main cage structure. Just about everything else seems to be built from 1.75".

I'm probably not going to race it, but that new ULTRA 4 class tempts me, so I thought I'd try to make it class legal, just in case.

Is it worth the extra weight and money to go with the 2" or should I stick with 1.75"?
1.75" seems like the standard everyone builds their buggies and cages and bumpers out of, but this is a fullsize rig and I bet I'm pushing 5500 lbs.

What do ya think?
