Building a smoker trailer

Well today I picked up a trailer to start my bbq/smoker trailer build. I have a buddy with a tank that is maybe 5' that he had upright in front of his smoker and stacked dutch ovens in so saturday I should be picking that up from him to get this project started. I can possibly get another 4runner axle to match what is under my sidekick now and some larger leafs for it to handle the weight better. I am thinking of building this into a small trailer that can be pulled around in the back country if I wanted so once the tank is on we will look at everything and think about the axle and tire options to accomplish this.

Tomorrow's project will be cleaning the frame, replacing a few bolts, replace the rusted coupler and chains, and install lights. Luckily I got a gift card to harbor freight for my birthday a few days ago and used that to get a few of these items.

Any tips on different things? Or ideas you have thought of if you were to build a smoker trailer?

This is a smoker my buddy built, he used an old wood burning stove as the smoker box on the side. He's out in Stansbury as well Eric.

Got a bit done today, not all I wanted to get done, but still got alot. Stripped the old wiring, pulled the mounts that held broken fiberglass whips, pulled the chains, and pulled the old coupler. The new coupler I noticed has an off hole so I will need to redrill a couple mounting holes or weld this coupler on and will have to move the chain bolt hole alittle forward since they couldnt reach my hitch. I also ground alot of the frame, sprayed with primer, and put 2 coats of red on it. I still need a couple more coats of paint before I add the lights and coupler but am fairly certain I should be done tomorrow.

Got the tank today. Friend had it upright in front of his large smoker and had been using it to stack his dutch ovens inside. Also picked up an old compressor tank from him and will be putting them together soon as well as bracing the frame some more since I found that it flexes pretty good haha.

Thank you. Thats the place that Chance suggested. I talked to Jeff at Armor Coatings about 10 minutes ago and may go with him but will try to call Dinos today as well.

I'd go with muriatic acid from Home Depot (2-pack for 11.48) follow up with a baking soda solution.

Neat project if you or someone else wants a wood stove for one of these I have one along with a Trailer that I planned to build a smoker with but I have to many irons in the fire so to speak, I will sell them very cheap to an R,M,E, Person. Please remove this if you consider it a hijack.

Well Jeff at Armor Coatings blasted it this week for me and tomorrow I take both tanks, trailer, and a few odds and ends when I am off work at 5 and will be heading to a buddies place in Sandy to put it all together. Crossing my fingers we get it all together tomorrow. I couldnt find any 3" or so pipe for the stack so my buddy has some 6" laying around we will use and will just put an adjustable cover on the stack so we can limit how much heat and smoke to let out.

Well I still done have everything together but today I picked up a rebuilt 85 Toyota rear axle with 32" tires for the trailer so it matches the sidekick and I also picked up an 83 Toyota bare front housing for the sidekick.

It got a bit exciting because I thought putting cardboard under the strap would eliminate getting it cut. Well, I started getting honks just as I passed under the bangeter overpass going southbound on i15 and found the strap cut and I lost a tire. I pulled over and called UHP. Luckily we found the tire and found it bounced 4 lanes over into the construction area and in busy traffic it didn't hit anyone. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446955286.057923.jpg

85 Toyota 4runner rear axle, samurai leaf springs, and 32" tires got swapped on last night.

Now to source 4" pipe for connecting the main tank to the smoke box and for the stack.
