The $11 option. Is that per quart? What kind of paint? How much is reducer/hardener?

Its per normal spray can. Again I don't know anything about paint except that it comes in a can and you push the button to spray it;) Give the keystone on 48th south and like 150 west a call. They just mix it to the facory paint code marc.

Nah, no spray cans for me except the black for the chassis and axles and whatever else. I've got a $400 (probably more like $700 in todays dollars?) spray can that works quite nicely.

Fancy paint gets scratched. I'm with you Greg.

Cheap paint, agreed. I really think he'll spend more buying paint in the spray cans vs. just buying paint and putting it in the gun. I think I spent $80 on my cheap enamel for the gallon. It won't win any shows, but it looks sorta decent. I was thinking it'd take about 10 spray cans or more to do the Jeep. I've still got at least half a gallon left for any repairs/remodels.

I'll research it before I spend... if it's cheaper to mix paint & use a gun, then I'll probably go that route. My biggest problem right now is that my old air compressor died & I'll need a new one to paint. That's another $400 that I wasn't planning on spending. I will need to replace it eventually, but those unexpected expenses suck.

Your YJ looks great Marc, you'd never know it was that cheap to spray.

Greg.... I haven't been on the site for a while, and the build thread has not been replaced by the "test trail" thread.
Check and see if Duplicolor makes your paint, cheap and easy with easy rock damage touch ups.
What do you lack on the build?

Yeah, it's not quite ready to wheel. I'll check into the Duplicolor, good call Jeff. At this point I have plenty of work to do before getting to concerned about the paint. I'll burn that bridge when I get to it.

Right now I'm buttoning up the small stuff, nothing really exciting. Wiring, plumbing, all the time consuming projects. The engine harness has been a PITA, mismarked & unmarked connections, etc. My goal is to fire the engine before the end of December. I was going for last week, but that didn't happen, though I did get a lot done.

I installed the Atlas shifter the other night, just got my Art Carr shifter this evening and it will go in tomorrow. There's also the battery and it's mount. I need to setup the transmission lines & cooler, wire & mount the radiator & cooling fan, etc. I have been debating what to do about the gauges, but I think I'm going to install a full set of AutoMeter gauges in the place of the factory gauges. That's about what I need to get it running, I still need to purchase some of those parts.

To get it driving I need both drivelines & all flanges, need to wrap up the rear disc brakes, install the full hydro ram & mounts, then have the hydro lines built. The exhaust is going to be a nightmare, both collectors dump on either the front driveshaft or an upper control arm. That will take some major tweaking to make work. After that I have to put together the tube fenders, bend some tube for the rockers, etc. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.

The biggest thing I 'lack' is probably cash... :-\ I'm doing my best to pay for everything out of pocket and I can't afford to buy all the parts I need at once. What's slowing me down is waiting for the next check... and the one after that. Not working for 4 weeks in Oct/Nov really put a damper the progress as well, since there was no $$$ coming in. I don't want to go out and drop $1000 on the credit card, so I wait for the cash to come in.

Well, I took a much needed break from working on the TJ over the holidays. I did not get it running like I wanted to, but I feel the time away from the project was worthwhile. I did get a few new parts & have started putting them in place.

My lovely wife was kind enough to help support my 4x habit by getting me a set of Coureau Ultra SS seats as my Christmas Gift. Yeah, she's awesome... :greg: My wife Catherine called Carl at TeraFlex Plus to set me up with these great seats.

The next thing I've been working on is installing the Atlas t-case shifters and the Art Carr shifter. There's some holes in the floor that will need to be filled, but that's no big deal. I think I'm going to cut the gate out for quick shifts into reverse.

I also picked up an aluminum radiator and a Derale transmission cooler w/ electric fan. I'm going to use a Taurus 2 speed fan on the back of the radiator to help keep the motor cool. I'm still debating on where to mount the trans cooler. I don't really have room in front of the radiator & I'd prefer not to block air flow to the radiator, so it may end up somewhere under the hood.

And the last thing, a straight hood! The other hood I had was quite beat up. The new one is the wrong color, but that's no big deal since it's going to get some trimming anyhow.

Making your own hydro hoses will not save you a lot of money, but it is easy and it is handy to have extra parts and extra hose for trail repairs for you and others. All fittings can be reused too.
I got a fan/cooler combo for my buggy too and have not regretted that at all, it really helps in the summer heat. The only down side is it is noisy, so the further from the vehicle passengers the better. Mine is mounted directly over the engine (have to look for a photo), I wanted to be able to reverse it and have the heat blow into the passenger area for warmth in the winter, but I haven't worked that out just yet.
Make sure you put a set of these in your seats too, best thing since sliced bread :)

Easter is early this year.... hope to see you in action at some time though ;)
