Rocky Mountain Extreme TJ Project Update:

Now that EJS is over and things are somewhat returning to normal, here's the first update on the RME rig...

The pic on the left shows the Blue Torch Fab tube fenders originally intended to be used (notice the tape-line where the hood is to be cut).

The pic on the right shows our custom tube fenders built to be used with the newly clearanced hood.

Update (continued)

Here is a front view showing the high-clearance fenders/cut hood.

Like most 4x4 owners, Greg's goal has always been to run a relatively large tire (40", in this case), very limited lift, yet retain as much up-travel as possible.

Update (continued)

A couple pics of the cage progress...

The front section is a "through the dash design" and all tubes going to the floor and rear wheelwells are tied into the frame.

Good eye.

First, the hood slopes more than a typical TJ due to the tub having a 1" body lift, yet the grille was left at stock height. This additional slope makes for better visability. Due to additional slope of the hood, the choice was made to have the fenders follow the same lines.

Very nice! I'm assuming the motor is sitting low... Will there be issues with driveline angles at the Tcase? I'm picturing the rear output pointing upwards?

I stopped by BHR today to see how the TJ is coming along, it's looking real good! The fab work is top-notch, very skilled work for sure. The guys working the tube bender and welder are true professionals and it shows in their work. Those roll cage pics are with the cage about 80% done, a dash bar has been added and also a couple of windshield bars. There's also the seat tie-ins that were being put in today and reinforcement for the B-pillar in the form of an 'A' shaped brace. I believe there will also be a couple other bars in the back of the Jeep, tieing in the B and C pillars.

Von is right, the tub has a 1" bodylift (to fit the suspension and get a flat belly with the huge Atlas) and the grill does not have the body lift spacer. Matter of fact, I also removed the factory puck that holds the grill in place. This resulted in about a 1.5" height difference between the tub & grill. Reason being was for increased visibility over the hood. I really liked the rake of the hood and decided to run with that. I'm glad I did, the front of the Jeep has a very aggressive look to it. Most of that has to do with the badass fenders, but the rake helps. ;)

The rear driveline angles won't be bad at all, remember that the rear axle has been moved back nearly 12". Also, there's only 3" of suspension lift, so the rear axle isn't too far down. The motor does sit fairly low, but so far all the driveline angles look great.

I actually got a ton of RME-related work/PR done over EJS without a 4x4, so I'm happy. Besides, Moab is so close I can wheel there whenever I like! :D

Looks great Greg! Are you going to run hood pins to keep the hood from flopping around?

Yep, the hood will be pinned down. I thought about trying to keep latches but there's not a lot of room to work with. Hood pins will just be easier.

Oh, I ordered some of the few remaining parts. Full Hydro Steering; an Appleton power steering coooler/reservoir/filter, and a Moroso fluid cooler. Exhaust; Aero Exhaust 3" 3030 Muffler. There's little left at this point!

The guys at BHR are shooting to have the TJ done by the end of April, which isn't that far away! I'll have some loose ends to tie up, wire & plumb an ARB comperssor, toss some paint over the bare metal, etc. It won't be long after that when the TJ will be getting wheeled!
