I run a tight ship... wreck

Little progress the last few days, I adapted a E2000 fuel pump to go inside of a stock TJ sending unit, since the fuel cell was built to take TJ parts. It was a bit of a pain, since the stock TJ pump is 1/3 the size. I wanted the pump in the tank rather than outside, also wanted to use the stock sending unit & factory power lines. The stock TJ pump wouldn't put out the pressure required by the 5.3 V8, hence the upgrade.

Since I was working on the tank, I ordered braided steel hose & AN fittings from Summit Racing. I included a fuel filter (there's one in the tank, but thought a 2nd before the motor would be useful,) and a pressure gauge that will go on the fuel rail. Should be handy if the pump ever goes out. Spent a couple hundred there... :ugh: Thanks goodness for Discover card! :D

I had to order the transmission mount, nobody stocks them here! Weird... it will be in tomorrow. I need to work on putting the wiring harness back together & getting power to the motor. If all goes well, I'll be firing the engine around the 2nd half of Dec.

Sounds like its coming along Greg. I'd be interested to see how you adapted that larger fuel pump. Way to go.

pm me - I'm curious how much you have in this project. want to do another, I'll pay you:)

thanks

I'll PM you, but to be honest with you I'm not really interested in working on someone elses Jeep. I do what I can for myself because I enjoy it and look forward to using it, building/wrenching for other people becomes work... and I have a good paying job if I'm looking for work. ;)

It's together now, but I'll see about getting some pics up. It was pretty simple once I started fitting it together, but pics will show everything better than trying to explain it.

i might've missed this in the 16 pages... but have you come up with the design for the wrap? i'm excited to see it all wrapped up.

Not really, it may just be as simple as a large image with the text, RockyMountainExtreme.com. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, for now my concern is getting it running/driving.

That doesn't matter to toyota guys, as long as it looks good:p

Well, time is ticking away & I need to get this Jeep on the trail! My goal is to get it running this week. I have 5 days off to get it going and a pretty extensive list. I'm going to do my best & see where I get.

Today I was plumbing the fuel system. I'm using a bunch of AN fittings & high pressure steel braided hose that I got from Summit Racing.

After getting the line ran from the fuel cell to the motor, I decided that steel braided hose is of the devil. -_- Cutting the steel braided hose is a PITA, if you're lucky enough to get a somewhat clean cut, you then have to press/twist/thread your fitting on. I got away with no less than 4 piercings after my fingers slipped. :wtf: This was the worst, a piece went right up the fingernail into the finger.

I'm going to work on the return line tomorrow, shouldn't be as difficult since it will be one piece, rather than 2. Oh... 20 ft of hose is just enough to run 2 lines from a cell to an engine under the hood. ;)

Ouch, I hope Catherine wasn't around to hear the words you exchanged after that.

Can't wait to see it running!

Two words

Hacksaw

Gloves

I was taught to wrap the hose with elec. tape & make a semi-fast cut with a chop saw. It usually works alright, but I had one that just came apart & frayed. I'll try the hacksaw, but have my doubts. :hickey:

I usually wear gloves, actually I wear gloves so much at work I feel unsafe not wearing gloves when working with my hands. I wasn't wearing any due to the small parts & dexterity needed to get the AN fitting over the hose.

Three words....

don't
use
Hacksaw

The teeth will be too big for the size fo the SS wire used on the hose, and it may be harder than the blade too. I have been using a 4.5" grinder with a cut off wheel (the real skinny ones) to cut my hoses, but a chop saw works well too if you can hold it still. The wire is inside the hose on hydrolic line, but about the same to cut. Make sure you blow out the hose with compressed air to get out the rubber, you don't want that getting into the injectors (but you already knew that, didn't you ;) )
I always carry a spare fuel filter with me too, you just never know.....

P.S. Why are your hands so clean??? Get to work!
