Anyone ever built one up? Are there performance products for the Jeep 2.5L? What can be done to increase low end torque output?

there is just about anything you want for the 2.5L but you are throwing money at a lost cause...By the time you are getting respectable power out of it you will have spent more than it would have cost to just swap a different motor in...Supercharger will give you the most power increae but you are talking $3-$4K atleast...

2.5L is a killer motor if you want a total rock buggy, but if you want a state street cruiser you are screwed with the 2.5. besides, 4 cylinders and v6's are becoming more and more popular in rock-buggies.

it's a good motor because:
it's a light-weight 4 cyl
it doesn't have oil blowby like the 4.0
you only have to replace 4 spark plugs!
it has just enough torque and is great if you run low gears
it still moves 31" tires on 3 cylinders (trust me i know)
4 cyl manuals come with 4.10's and will out-wheel a 4.0 (trust me i know)

it's a bad motor because:
they are pretty slow!
motor mounts are not readily available
did i mention they are slow!?!

i can't think of anything else but this should get some interesting replies.
I LOVE MY 2.5 AND I SWEAR I AM NOT GAY!

man, suzukis are bad! i have a sami. they are awesome, that little motor is indestructable! if you are into mudding and all that crap then you want a big-block but for rock-crawling all you need is a 4 cyl.
this is my opinion but i know that a lot of people agree with me, but then again a lot of people might not agree. its cool, i love 4 cyls.
go to spidertrax or calmini and check out their samis. samis can do so good! they are killer!!!!

The zuk motors are not indestructable. The crank timingchain sproket keyway setup is not the greatest. They should have made it a tapered deal then the crank in my samurai would not be ruined. And rebuild zuk motors cost more than brand new chevt 350s imagine that.

Anyway back to the topic nobody is swaping out V8s or I6s for fours are they pokey. Gear change will give a seat of the pants improvement, any mod to the engine will be burning $.

whatever you say.
i put the rustys air tube on my 2.5 with the k&n filter (the huge one). it is basically just like half an intake. and i felt a definite improvement in 2nd gear. you know how most cars have kind of a lag in 2nd gear, well this got rid of that. and it sounds sweeet. i also put flowmaster 40 series cat back exhaust and that improved it a ton too. that also sounds sweeeet. everybody thinks i have a smallblock cause it is so burly sounding, but i am very quick to tell them i have a 4 cyl. 4 cyl pride! i also added a rustys tb spacer but i have not driven it with that installed yet.

a small motor makes your drivetrain live longer!

I also have 76 to 1 crawl ratio(with 4.56s and no special gears in the T/C). I think that my 8 cylinders probably can idle lower than your four, but I was thinking sand hill first one to the top wins.

I think this is pokey's bro...juding how sweet a motor is by its sound:rolleyes: no their isn;t a lot of guys running 4 cyl in comp specifically because they are under powered...the ONLY person I know of that is even respectable thats running the 2.5L is Jason Bunch of Tri-County in Cali...a few are running the 1.6L but the only one that finishes respectfuly is Dean Bulloch...4 cyls dont cut it for rockcrawling...I used to think the same thing, gear it low enough and it will be fine...no thats not true...sometimes on steep climbs you really need the extra power of atleast a 6 cyl...Dija see Walker down in Farmington??? he was running some aluminum 4 popper and could hardly make the climbs(I bet you will see him back with either a 4.3L or a 5.7L)...so you are proud of your 4 cyl, thats fine...so was I at one point till I realized no matter what I did to it there still was just no power to be had...thats why I am now running a 4.3L and some day in the future may step up to a 5.7L...I think your power upgrades are mearly in your head...I did the same mods to mine and I did notice the throttle was more responsive but there was very little, if any, power increase...

oh yeah if you are judging a motor on 31s then you ned to take a sneek peek at the comps...they wont even let you run with 31s:rolleyes:
